Summary

The VA Fargo Healthcare System is recruiting (1) Physician Assistant (Occupational Health) in Fargo - ND. The Physician Assistant performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits on a regular and ongoing basis in the provision of care within Primary Care - Employee Health Clinic to eligible employees in accordance with individual patient needs - using EHU protocols as a general guideline.

Duties

• The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers
• This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest
• As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care - you will operate in a model with three core elements - seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran
• This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community
• This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being
• Primary Care Physician Assistant (Occupational Health) Duties include: Performs a comprehensive patient assessment - including a health history - physical examination and evaluation of deviations from the normal for employees requiring annual surveillance exams to include but not limited to: Police initial entry and annual exams DAV van drivers Anti-neoplastic surveillance Asbestos surveillance Title V employee annual exam Title 38 employee annual exam Pre-Placement History and Physical Exams Without Compensation (WOC) pre-placement physical exams Performs comprehensive history and physical exam on Primary Care Veterans and employees who present with work-related injuries
• Coordinates with supervisors to establish modified work programs that reduce lost work time and promotes rapid but appropriate return to work for injured employees
• Serves as a Case Manager and liaison between injured employees and private physicians/specialists - both duty and non-duty related that promotes optimum healing and rapid return to work with modified work programs
• Promotes health maintenance through coordination of facility and /or departmental and community resources - facilitating interdisciplinary communications and function through electronic dialog and face-to-face conferences
• Works in an interdisciplinary - collaborative relationship in the clinical setting - providing interpretation of administrative policies - assistance in the development of procedures - protocols - and educational programs
• Uses community resources to coordinate prevention and health maintenance programs for patients/clients
• Prescribes medications according to approved formulary - and in accordance with Federal and State Law
• Orders diagnostic tests - medications - laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient
• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm
• Shifts may vary
