As the Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) , you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports students from diverse backgrounds and promotes their holistic wellbeing. You will provide culturally responsive, student-centered care while supporting their personal, academic, and developmental success. Be Bold. As part of Duke CAPS, you will provide brief therapy, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and prevention services in a high-demand university setting. You'll make meaningful contributions to student wellness by providing clinically sound, equitable, and compassionate mental health support. What You'll Do Direct Clinical Services - 60% Provide triage, crisis intervention, assessment, de-escalation, safety planning, and referral coordination for students in acute distress. Conduct initial intakes, develop treatment recommendations, and provide brief therapy, including single-session therapy when needed. Initiate and facilitate group therapy offerings (process, support, and skills-based). Develop and deliver outreach programming and workshops to promote student mental health and wellbeing, prioritizing equitable access. Support university-wide prevention initiatives. Provide supervision and didactic training for master's-level interns. Administrative & Professional Responsibilities - 35% Maintain accurate and timely documentation consistent with state laws, ethical standards, and CAPS procedures. Use the Electronic Medical Record system following HIPAA and FERPA guidelines. Coordinate referrals for students needing external services. Serve as a CAPS liaison to campus partners, providing consultation, training, and integrated support. Provide consultation to campus partners, families, and community providers to coordinate student care. Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for crisis services. Attend staff meetings, consultation meetings, CE presentations, and required supervision. Serve on committees as assigned by CAPS leadership. Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure and stay current in college mental health best practices. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical and legal standards. Other Duties - 5% Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental, divisional, and university goals. Strongly Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related mental health field. 3 years post-master's clinical experience , including at least 5 years of clinical and crisis experience in a university counseling center, student mental health setting, or related healthcare or social service environment. Demonstrated experience providing crisis services, individual therapy, and group therapy. Experience in crisis assessment, intervention, consultation, and case management. Experience working with young adult and emerging adult populations, ideally in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to manage a clinical caseload in a demanding environment. Proven success working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Strong commitment to supporting the wellbeing of students from all communities. Preferred Skills and Competencies Strong generalist background with experience supporting a wide range of mental health concerns. Demonstrated crisis management and intervention skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills; proficiency with EMR systems. Commitment to collaborative interdisciplinary work within a university counseling center. Experience working with diverse client populations with sensitivity and cultural humility. Strong judgment, confidentiality, and professionalism in supporting students in need. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,535.00 to USD $92,820.00.
