Associate Principal - High School (0209)

Work with the campus principal to coordinate and administer the various programs of the school within the framework of the philosophy, goals, and policy established by the Board, within the status and standards of regulatory agencies, and in accordance with administrative regulations. Assist with the overall coordination of campus staff and operations.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree
• Texas assistant principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
• Certified Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS) appraiser
• Thorough understanding of school operations
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to coordinate campus support operations.
• Two years experience as a classroom teacher
• Experience as an assistant principal (preferred)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Management:

1. Assist the principal with the development and coordination of the total curriculum and instructional program in accordance with district guidelines.
2. Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
3. Conduct instructional observations and conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance.
4. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
5. Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
6. Assist the Principal with master scheduling.
7. Assist faculty and staff in identifying, defining, and solving instructional related problems.
8. Utilize the instructional staff and support services (intra-district and inter-district) to maintain and improve the instructional program.

School/Organizational Climate:

1. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning by interacting effectively with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school programs.
2. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

5. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Personnel Management:

1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:

1. Supervise operations in principal's absence.
2. Maintain accurate and complete records of programs and projects for which he/she is responsible and punctually submit accurate reports as may be required by law, District policy, or administrative regulation.
3. Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
4. Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
5. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
6. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
7. Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
8. Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
9. Communicate, interpret, and comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, board policy, administrative procedures, and TEA regulations.

Student Management:

1. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods and extracurricular activities.
2. Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
3. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
4. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development:

1. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

School/Community Relations:

1. Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
2. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
3. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
4. Support, communicate, and interpret District goals, policies, procedures and directives to staff under his/her direction and supervise their implementation.
5. Maintain a positive image of the school by involving community members and agencies in a supportive role and by attending school functions.

Supervisory Duties: Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.

Equipment Used: Personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and peripheral equipment

Working Conditions: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Extensive walking, stooping, bending, overhead reaching, keyboarding, and lifting. Occasional district-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist height.
