Job Overview The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office seeks Correctional Officers to serve and protect their communities. Correctional Officers are assigned to both South Lake Tahoe and Placerville facilities and may be assigned to specialty units such as Classification and Gangs, Inmate Services, and armed Transportation Officers. Responsibilities Process incoming inmates and assist with releasing from custody. Maintain safety and security while ensuring the facility remains in compliance with daily Title 15 mandates, including supervising inmate exercise, recreation, visiting and similar privileges. Respond to emergency situations within the facility, including medical responses. Evaluate emergency situations and provide immediate response with proper actions. Monitor inmate daily activity, document incidents, and search the facility and inmates for contraband and weapons. Handcuff, subdue, and restrain persons who pose a danger to themself or others, and use restraining devices. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be at least 18 years of age. High school graduation or GED certificate. Physical and environmental fitness as required for the position (physical exam may be required). Additional Requirements Prior to conditional job offer, candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation. Many job classifications require a pre-employment medical screening.
