Registered Dietitian

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing nutritional assessment and counseling to patients and their families to help modify eating behaviors and improve health status.

Essential functions include:

  • Providing culturally appropriate nutrition and patient consultation as directed by the medical staff.
  • Planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nutrition education for patients; arranging for follow-up as needed.
  • Instructing diabetes education courses and cooking demonstrations.
  • Maintaining notes in patient medical record which document care provided, including but not limited to nutritional screens, assessments, instructions given, and patient progress.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary conferences as requested.
  • Assisting with nutritional and diabetes related GPRA and Meaningful Use Clinical Quality Measures.
  • Assisting with the development of community outreach events.

Additional duties may include:

  • Performing other duties and projects as required by management.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Prior experience in nutrition/health services that equips the applicant with the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patient encounters.

Minimum qualifications for consideration include:

  • Licensed Dietitian in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in medical setting, and the ability to work in the community.
  • Expected: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or willingness to obtain certification within 24 months of accepting employment.

Physical requirements include:

  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time; sitting behind a computer for prolonged periods of time; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and lifting.
  • Environmental conditions include:

    • General clinical environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens and patient body fluids.
