Work Environment
The successful candidate will work within our busy emergency department, which serves a diverse patient population including individuals with critical injuries and severe illnesses. This environment demands a high level of teamwork and communication, as well as the ability to make quick, informed decisions. You will work alongside experienced trauma surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals committed to delivering quality care. Our full-time schedule consists of 40 hours per week, typically starting at 5:00 pm, allowing for a consistent work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to trauma alerts promptly, assessing and stabilizing patients experiencing acute medical emergencies.
- Conduct comprehensive initial assessments by gathering detailed patient histories, performing physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Assist in resuscitation efforts and execute life-saving interventions in high-pressure situations.
- Collaborate effectively with the trauma team to coordinate interprofessional care for trauma patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by supervising physicians, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Participate in invasive procedures, wound management, and other critical interventions under supervision.
- Educate patients and their families about the specifics of trauma care and recovery processes to foster understanding and compliance.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and manage pain and discomfort actively throughout their treatment.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards to maintain a sterile and safe environment for both patients and staff.
Patient Population / Client Focus
You will primarily work with patients presenting with trauma-related injuries, including but not limited to, blunt and penetrating injuries, fractures, and severe medical conditions requiring immediate care. Your role will emphasize stabilizing these patients and ensuring they receive timely interventions leading to improved health outcomes. Being part of a healthcare team that prioritizes patient needs, you will advocate for patient-centered care while enhancing every individual’s recovery journey.
Qualifications
- Earned a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, along with graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- At least two years of clinical experience, particularly in emergency medicine or trauma care.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma assessment and stabilization protocols.
- Strong clinical skills including comprehensive trauma evaluations and interventions.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure trauma environment.
- Proficient in accurately documenting patient care and treatment plans.
- A solid commitment to continuous learning and professional development, especially in trauma medicine.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience working within an emergency department or trauma unit is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with trauma-specific medications and interventions enhances your suitability for this role.
- Competence in executing trauma-related procedures under supervision will be advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position ranges from $140,000 to $180,000 annually, dependent on experience and qualifications.
