Food Safety Manager
The Food Safety Manager develops, implements, and leads comprehensive food safety and quality programs within a cookie dough and dessert manufacturing facility. This role serves as the on-site subject matter expert for food safety, ensuring that all production activities comply with regulatory requirements and customer standards while working hands-on alongside production team members.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example on the production floor by performing production tasks alongside team members while consistently promoting safe food handling practices.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust food safety programs in accordance with FDA, USDA (if applicable), SQF, GMP, HACCP, and customer-specific requirements.
- Serve as the facility’s primary food safety subject matter expert and designated SQF Practitioner.
- Lead and continuously improve the facility’s food safety and quality management systems to ensure consistent product quality and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local food safety regulations across production, packaging, and storage operations.
- Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices, particularly those impacting cookie dough and dessert manufacturing, and update programs and procedures accordingly.
- Oversee and support production activities, including general labor, assembly, mixing, machine operation, packaging, and inspection, to verify compliance with food safety standards.
- Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles to enhance food safety processes and overall production efficiency.
- Supervise and guide production team members, promoting a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
- Lead internal and external food safety and quality audits, including preparation, execution, documentation, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date food safety documentation, records, and reports using Microsoft Office and food safety documentation systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks, implement preventive controls, and improve allergen management and GMP compliance.
- Conduct routine inspections of production lines, equipment, and facility conditions to identify and resolve food safety issues.
- Support training and coaching of team members on HACCP, FSMA, Preventive Controls, GMPs, allergen management, and safe equipment operation.
- Ensure safe use of production tools, mixers, hand tools, and forklifts in alignment with food safety and workplace safety standards.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Food Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 1+ years of food safety, quality assurance, or quality management experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in food manufacturing.
- Solid understanding of FSMA and Preventive Controls requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and allergen management.
- Demonstrated SQF experience and ability to serve as an SQF Practitioner.
- Experience leading internal and external audits in a food production setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and food safety documentation systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Hands-on experience in food production environments, including general labor, assembly, mixing, machine operation, packaging, and inspection.
- Ability to supervise and guide production personnel while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Work Environment
This role is based in a climate-controlled food manufacturing facility focused on cookie dough and dessert production. You work on-site during a 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule with part-time hours, primarily on the production floor alongside team members. The environment includes production lines, mixers, packaging equipment, hand tools, and forklifts, with a strong emphasis on GMPs, sanitation, and safety. Work involves general production tasks, machine operation, inspection, and supervision in a clean, organized setting where adherence to food safety protocols and proper attire suitable for a manufacturing and GMP-compliant environment are required
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lincoln, NE.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
