LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER - 42003769 Requisition No: 878650 Agency: Agriculture and Consumer Services; Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement ***THIS IS AN OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY*** Duties The incumbent is responsible for law enforcement activities as specified in Section 570.65, Florida Statutes. These duties include, but are not limited to, criminal violations involving domesticated animals, livestock, poultry, aquaculture products, farms and farm equipment, livery tack, citrus and citrus products, trespass, littering, forests, theft of forest products, protection of consumers, all criminal laws and civil traffic laws committed on property owned, managed, or occupied by the department, any emergency situation in which the life, limb, or property of any person is placed in danger, and any crime incidental to or related thereto. Each officer must meet the qualifications established by Chapter 943, Florida Statutes and exercise arrest, jurisdiction, and other authorities provided for state law enforcement officers. Responsibilities include managing and operating Agricultural Inspection Stations 24hours a day, year‑round, and utilizing roving patrols. Officers ensure compliance with various laws and regulations by inspecting agricultural and horticultural products, recording data, and reporting to supervisors and related agencies. Officers maintain daily cleanliness of buildings, grounds, and equipment, prepare and submit detailed reports, and cooperate with other law‑enforcement agencies. Officers may conduct investigations, make arrests, testifying in court, and participate in programs with federal, state, and local agencies to enhance agricultural programs and state revenue. Officers are authorized to use modern law‑enforcement techniques including, but not limited to, arrests, searches, seizures, crime‑scene investigations, photography, fingerprint processing, laboratory aids, and evidence preservation. Officers must develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies, and remain informed of recent court decisions, legislation, and new techniques. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of law‑enforcement and investigative principles and techniques. Knowledge of security and safety principles. Ability to write reports, prepare and present training materials, and coordinate activities with other law‑enforcement agencies. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the local law‑enforcement program. Skill in operating assigned equipment such as firearms, surveillance equipment, radios, and handcuffs. Ability to interview suspects and witnesses, gather and submit physical evidence. Additional Requirements Minimum Qualifications High School graduate or GED. Must be 18 years of age to apply and 19 years of age by date of hire. Valid driver’s license with no more than four moving traffic violations within the past three years. No convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence within the past five years. No refusal to submit to a breath, blood, or urine test within the last five years. No illegal cannabis use within the last two years. No illegal controlled substance use other than cannabis within the last five years. No convictions of felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement. No dishonorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces. Good moral character. Must possess an active Florida law‑enforcement certificate in compliance with Florida Statute 943 or have passed the State Officer Certification Exam prior to hire. One of the Following is Required One (1) year of law‑enforcement experience. Two (2) years of work experience. Two (2) years of active continuous military service (may substitute for work experience but not for certification). College education can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for work experience (does not substitute for certification). Medical Evaluation. Drug Screening. Salary $60,000.20 Duty Stations and Assignments Duty stations are assigned based on position availability, agency needs, and candidate location. Areas include, but are not limited to, Interstate 10 in Escambia County. Special Benefits for This Position Uniforms and dry‑cleaning allowance: Uniforms, equipment, and weapons are provided at no cost; uniform maintenance allowance of $500 annually. Education and training incentive payments: Sworn employees may receive up to $130 monthly for completing career development courses and/or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
