Instructional Designer II

Instructional Designer II Agency: Texas A&M Engineering Department: Workforce Development Location: Bryan, Texas Position Type: Staff Purpose The Instructional Designer II will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and maintain educational content for professional workforce development programs, ensuring alignment with learning objectives, instructional design principles, and assessment strategies. Responsibilities Develop a deep understanding of the manufacturing professional education course portfolio. Assess problem situations, gather and process relevant information, generate solutions and recommend or resolve issues. Present ideas and concepts to internal and external stakeholders. Conduct client interviews, review documents to understand learner and business needs. Design learner‑centric solutions, from single workshops to multi‑part certification programs. Record notes during SME interviews or conduct secondary research to support design decisions. Create builds of slides, scenarios, cases, facilitator notes, video scripts, measurement tools, and secure materials. Collect learner, client, and project team feedback and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Collaborate with client services and broader learning and development teams (editors, graphic designers). Recommend enhancements or revisions of course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices. Conduct needs assessment and content analysis with industry and SMEs. Author original content and modify existing materials in partnership with SMEs. Develop design documents (course outlines, storyboards, mockups) and design successful assessments. Provide input on the solution’s design or support its delivery. Engage with minors and youth during program activities in compliance with university policies and state regulations. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related instructional design or instructional development experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience creating graduate‑level or workforce development learning solutions across modalities (face‑to‑face, live‑virtual, self‑directed, etc.). Experience working with SMEs to create adult learning solutions, preferably in engineering or technical fields. Experience in course design, wire‑framing, storyboarding, and instructional design tools. Experience in project management and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas. Experience in train‑the‑trainer models. Spanish speaking or experience creating Spanish‑translated content is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities General knowledge of learning theories and technology. Strong leadership & communication skills to simplify complex content. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency with project management systems. Strong influencing, interpersonal, and interdepartmental skills. Superior presentation and facilitation skills. Excellent writing and communication talents. Copyediting and proofreading skills (beneficial). Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.
