TEMPORARY HEAP Specialist (Home Energy Assistance Program) The HEAP Specialist plays a key role in helping Cumberland County residents access essential home heating and energy assistance programs. This client-focused position provides direct support to individuals and families seeking assistance with heating costs through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and related energy services. Responsibilities Conduct client intake interviews, determine program eligibility, and process applications. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with program guidelines. Serve as a trusted resource for clients, providing information, guidance, and referrals. Deliver compassionate and professional customer service. Adhere to program manuals, regulations, rules, and guidelines. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and/or 5 years of demonstrated experience in a clerical or administrative position. Post‑secondary education preferred. Strong oral, written, and organizational skills. Ability to comprehend and incorporate program manuals, regulations, rules and guidelines. Ability to respond in a fast‑paced environment and fulfill multiple concurrent administrative functions. Experience handling confidential matters and maintaining confidential files with discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to operate a photocopier, facsimile, and multi‑line telephone. Must successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check, and not be on state or federal suspension and disbarment lists. Physical ability to exert moderate effort, lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Driving may be necessary; a good driving record is required. Schedule & Location Full‑time, 40 hours per week, hourly position. M‑F, regular business hours. This is a temporary position. Location: South Portland, ME.
