Performs public health nursing service work in a public health department. Participates in assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating public health nursing services to individuals, families, and/or communities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the appropriate Program Coordinator.

None. SAFETY SENSITIVE DESIGNATION This position is designed as a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug screening.
SCHEDULE INFORMATION
Identifies the physical, social, and emotional health needs of individuals and families through systematic assessment utilizing professional skills, health history, physical evaluation, laboratory, and other diagnostic tools. Provides appropriate counseling and referrals/monitors outcome of referrals.
Performs nursing actions to prevent illness, promote, maintain, or restore health to individuals, families, and communities. (Immunizations, Venipunctures, STD Testing & Treatment, Etc.)
Evaluates the outcome of the care plans and nursing services provided, modifying each as necessary. Performs chart reviews to assure quality of care. Reviews and records lab results.
Assists physician during medical clinics.
Participates in community health promotion efforts through teaching and counseling community groups.
Provides information about services in a manner consistent with policies and functions of the agency to professional organizations and other community groups as assigned.
Applies epidemiological methods for disease control to individuals, families, and communities. Works in cooperation with Disease Intervention Specialist.
Participates in nursing functions related to Licensing Regulations.
Prepares Lab and Clinic Specimens for mailing.
Participates in case conferences with physicians' hospital personnel, and representatives of other agencies.
Reviews shot records and compares to Immunization Schedule prior to administering immunizations.
Verifies shot record in ImmTrac 2 and obtains consents to be added if needed.
Administer Immunizations to children and adults.
Counsels responsible party to seek regular check-ups, especially Medicaid patients, at their medical provider.
Does CDC education and training as required by the Grant.
Reconciles end of day vaccine counts daily.

Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate Program Coordinator.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: (a)
(a) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. (b) Licensed to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas. (c) Two (2) years full-time, paid employment as a Licensed Vocational Nurse is preferred.

The City of Texarkana, Texas provides three weeks of paid vacation and three weeks of paid sick leave per year as well as 13 paid holidays per year.
Retirement benefits are through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with the City contributing at a rate of 2 to 1 and the employee contributing 7% each paycheck to TMRS. Employees are vested after five years and may retire after either twenty years of service at any age or at age 60 as long as they are vested.
Retirement benefits for the Fire Department are paid through the Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund and employees are eligible to retire after twenty years of employment.
A voluntary 457 deferred compensation program through MissionSquare is also offered to all City employees.
The City of Texarkana, Texas provides health, dental, and vision insurance to its employees at a minimal cost. Life insurance equal to one times your annual salary is offered at no cost to the employee with supplemental life and dependent life insurance also available but is paid by the employee. Insurance becomes effective the first of the month following thirty days of employment.
