Field Service Specialist - (NOVA / DMV)

Job Summary Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customers facilities, including testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Duties And Responsibilities Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities. Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation. Assist in the following tests: Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance; Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, cable thumper; Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing. Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment. Attend safety meetings and training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations. Ability to assist with complex mechanical and electrical problems. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills. Strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines. Knowledge of Doble DTAF and Power DB is preferred; training will be provided. Consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, and training. Organizational skills for timely reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and documentation. Responsible for maintaining tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean, organized condition and keeping them up to date with service and calibrations. Work Environment Willing to relocate within 60 miles of the regional office. Corporate business hours Monday‑Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; may require work outside of business hours. Work in close but safe proximity to live electrical substations. Willing to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Willing to travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects. Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly. Education and Work Experience High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred but not required. Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred but not required. Other useful experience includes mechanical aptitude and an attitude eager to learn. Other Requirements Pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check. Pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing. Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain an endorsement for operating a combined vehicle up to 26 k lbs. Ability to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. Willing to obtain a company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30‑hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
