PARK MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT - CHANNEL COAST DISTRICT / CARPINTERIA STATE BEACH


This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The Park Maintenance Assistant position will report to the maintenance shop located at Carpinteria State Beach and work under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor. Duties for this position include skilled and semi skilled structural and facility maintenance and repair work. Will also lead and train maintenance employees, including seasonal and special program maintenance crews. Actively oversee facility and equipment maintenance and participate in purchasing and contract preparation. Participates in all aspects of the Maximo program.


The incumbent's work schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours during peak seasons or special events.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions


Works primarily outdoors in a park environment exposed to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and sun. May be exposed to dust, dirt, uneven terrain, insects, poison oak, and other natural elements. Work may involve frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and operating basic maintenance equipment. May be subject to call-out or emergency response situations, including assistance during natural disasters, severe weather events, or fire incidents as directed. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows departmental safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
