Lab Technician

The Lab Technician supports chemical manufacturing operations by performing quality control testing on a wide range of products, including lubricants, aerosols, solvents, alkaline cleaners, acidic cleaners, and emulsions. This role reviews and approves product and customer specifications against established quality standards, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment, and ensures accurate documentation of test results. The Lab Technician contributes directly to product quality, regulatory compliance, and a strong safety culture within a fast-paced manufacturing and quality laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products to verify characteristics such as specific gravity, color, viscosity, pH, non-volatiles, and other key quality parameters.
• Ensure that all tested products meet approved specifications and quality standards before release.
• Review and approve product specifications and customer specifications against established quality specifications.
• Record test data accurately, maintain detailed records, and clearly document any test results that deviate from standards and specifications.
• Release products that meet specifications or participate in investigations and prepare non-conforming documentation for management review and action when products do not meet requirements.
• Maintain quality documents, records, and files, and compile, store, and retrieve test data, production data, and comparison data as needed.
• Use laboratory equipment such as scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, ovens, and related instruments in daily work activities.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment, or verify calibrations, and ensure that all instruments are maintained in proper working condition in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Maintain laboratory supplies and ensure that the lab remains adequately stocked to support testing and formulation activities.
• Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and related documentation to support product release and customer requirements.
• Support chemical formulation activities as needed, including work related to formulating chemicals for manufacturing operations.
• Contribute to and uphold a culture that prioritizes the safety of all employees in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment at assigned workstations and within the laboratory.
• Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively within cross-functional teams to support responsible decision-making and continuous improvement in quality processes.
• Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by leadership within the Quality Lab and Formulation function.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience formulating chemicals.
• At least 1 year of laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience performing quality control tests such as specific gravity, color, viscosity, pH, and non-volatile content measurements.
• Ability to work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and follow established procedures and standards.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail in testing and documentation.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and influence others to support quality objectives.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
• High tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility with respect to job functions and working hours in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds individually and up to 75 pounds in tandem, as necessary.
• Ability to sit and stand for up to 8 or more hours per day in a manufacturing floor and quality laboratory environment.
• High school diploma combined with at least 1 year of chemical formulating experience and/or relevant certifications or accreditations.
• Alternatively, an A.S. or B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, or 2 or more years of equivalent experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in formulating automotive chemicals is preferred.
• Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a plus.
• Experience working under GLP standards is a plus.
• Experience in a quality control laboratory within a chemical or related manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational skills for maintaining quality documents, records, and test data.
• Comfort working with a variety of laboratory instruments such as scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, and ovens.
• Ability to prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and related quality documentation.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and maintaining a clean, compliant laboratory environment.

Work Environment

This role operates in a combined manufacturing floor and quality laboratory environment that is dynamic and fast-paced. The Lab Technician works with a variety of chemical products, including lubricants, aerosols, solvents, alkaline cleaners, acidic cleaners, and emulsions, and uses laboratory equipment such as scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, ovens, and other analytical instruments. Work typically involves standing and sitting for extended periods, handling materials, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds individually and up to 75 pounds in tandem. The position follows Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and established safety procedures, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. Standard laboratory and manufacturing attire is expected, including appropriate personal protective equipment as required for handling chemicals and operating lab equipment. The environment encourages collaboration, clear communication, and flexibility to support multiple projects and shifting priorities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Hernando, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
