Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor for Small Animal Emergency Medicine and/or Critical Care

The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has a position available for an Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor for Small Animal Emergency Medicine and/or Critical Care, to work at the Animal Health Center in Starkville. This position is running concurrently with 511090 with the intent to fill one position.

Salary Grade: UC

Area of Specialization: Emergency Medicine

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The new faculty member will join other faculty members on the Small Animal Emergency and ICU clinical service rotation. Service responsibilities involve emergency duty, primary and secondary clinical case management, and consultation with private practitioners. Teaching responsibilities will involve clinical training for veterinary professional students, house officers and veterinary medical technology students enrolled in the academic program. The new faculty member will be expected to play a role in enhancing the quality of patient care and teaching in our Emergency/ICU senior veterinary student rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential qualifications include a DVM or equivalent degree, and considerable experience or residency training in emergency and/or critical care. Applicant must be eligible for licensure in Mississippi. Experience: Assistant Clinical Professor- 5 years of emergency experience or completion of an Emergency/Critical Care residency. Associate Clinical Professor-10 years of emergency experience or completion of and Emergency/Critical Care residency and 5 years of post-residency Emergency/Critical care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience is also preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service. Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
