Project Executive

Merit Construction, Inc. is an award‑winning Knoxville‑based General Construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full‑time opening for a Project Executive. Responsibilities Responsible for coordinating activities across multiple construction projects. The Project Executive will be held accountable for the projects, project teams, and ensuring that Merit’s principles and processes are followed to achieve the best possible project results. Responsibilities include retaining existing clients through client stewardship and supporting new client development activities. Leadership – Directly manage project teams on assigned projects, including planning, assigning, & scheduling work, reviewing work & ensuring quality standards, providing training & overseeing productivity, and offering recommendations on hiring, terminations, pay increases, and promotions. Mentorship and Capability Development – Foster growth of team members, establish clear role expectations, provide regular feedback, suggest self‑development, and ensure proper training. Pre‑construction – Lead and manage the project pre‑construction process to secure projects with existing and new clients under favorable and profitable terms and conditions, understanding and accounting for applicable risk factors. Project Performance – Accountability for overall project performance measured in safety, quality, customer satisfaction, financial, standard operating procedures, and schedules. Risk Management – Anticipate and mitigate risks through contract review, subcontractor qualifications, change management, and safety. Communication – Communicate company mission, vision, and values to project teams; facilitate effective communication and documentation of lessons learned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required in technical fields such as Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture. Subject matter expert in specialized areas preferred (e.g., healthcare, education, multi‑family). 15+ years of progressively increasing related work experience with a proven track record of securing & completing projects that result in a high level of client satisfaction. Full working knowledge and understanding of Merit culture, leadership style, terminology, formal processes, and procedures. Working knowledge of construction operations. Advanced analytical, project/process management, and technical skills. Advanced written and oral communication skills. Basic computer, office administrative, and office equipment operation skills.
