Senior Software Engineer

Abbott seeks a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) in Alameda, CA to design and optimize scalable microservices for its Lingo health platform. The role focuses on building high-performance APIs and event-driven services using Java Spring Boot, while collaborating with product and platform teams to ensure reliability and security. The engineer will contribute to architecture decisions, mentor junior staff, and ensure HIPAA and GDPR compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable microservices and APIs for real-time biosensor data processing
• Build backend services using Java Spring Boot with REST API design and Spring ecosystem best practices
• Implement event-driven integrations with Kafka, RabbitMQ, and analytics pipelines
• Optimize backend services for low latency, high throughput, and cost efficiency
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline
• Minimum 7 years of experience with distributed, cloud-native systems
• Strong Java and Spring Boot production experience with RESTful API development
• Hands-on proficiency with Kafka or RabbitMQ messaging and streaming systems
• Production experience with Kubernetes and familiarity with service mesh concepts
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and HIPAA, GDPR compliance requirements
• Microservices architecture and REST API design expertise

Compensation: $100,000 - $200,000 base
