General Studies Associate Teacher (K-6)

Reports To: Director of Curriculum & Instruction Position Overview: The General Studies Associate Teacher is a full-time (August–June), credentialed educator who works in close partnership with a Lead Teacher to support the planning and delivery of high-quality instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies. This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about working in a collaborative environment, committed to inclusive and culturally responsive teaching, and eager to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The Associate Teacher plays an integral role in maintaining a positive, engaging classroom environment and in delivering instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners. Responsibilities span instructional support, classroom management, assessment, and collaboration, making this a dynamic position that contributes meaningfully to student learning and community life. Key Responsibilities: Co-plan and co-teach standards-aligned lessons that incorporate CCSS and NGSS Deliver small-group and whole-class instruction across subject areas Adapt and differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners Assist with preparation and organization of instructional materials and activities Integrate culturally responsive practices and perspectives into lessons Support classroom routines and transitions that maximize learning time Assessment & Data Assist in administering and interpreting assessments to monitor student learning Support documentation of student growth and progress toward learning goals Contribute to report cards and progress reports in collaboration with the Lead Teacher Provide timely, supportive feedback to students on their work and behavior Help establish and maintain an inclusive, respectful, and joyful classroom culture Reinforce social-emotional learning and positive behavior strategies Build strong relationships with students and help them develop confidence and independence Promote student identity, voice, and agency in daily interactions Family & Community Partnerships Support classroom communication with families under the direction of the Lead Teacher Participate in classroom-based family events and schoolwide celebrations Attend parent-teacher conferences and family meetings, as appropriate Collaboration & Professional Growth Work closely with the Lead Teacher, specialists, and support staff to meet student needs Engage in faculty meetings, grade-level team planning, and schoolwide initiatives Participate in ongoing professional development related to curriculum, instruction, and equity Contribute to discussions and planning related to Student Learning Plans (SLPs) and IEPs Whole-School Events Help plan and facilitate schoolwide programs, community-building events, and field trips Supervise and support students during special events and transitions Support schoolwide observances of cultural heritage months (e.g., Black History Month, AANHPI Heritage Month, Jewish American Heritage Month) and ensure students of all backgrounds are represented and included. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education & Certification Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required Valid Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (or equivalent) required Ongoing commitment to professional growth and reflective practice Professional Experience Minimum of 1 year of experience working with elementary-aged children in a school setting Experience in inclusive or diverse classrooms strongly preferred Familiarity with standards-based instruction and classroom routines Instructional Knowledge Understanding of CCSS, NGSS, and instructional best practices Familiarity with strategies for differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equity-minded practices Leadership & Interpersonal Skills Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families Reflective, flexible, and proactive approach to teaching and learning Other Skills & Requirements Proficiency with educational technology tools Ability to manage multiple tasks and support classroom flow Familiarity with Jewish traditions and values is a plus, but not required Willingness to occasionally provide classroom coverage or supervision as needed, in coordination with school leadership. This is not expected to be a regular responsibility.
