Job Title: CNC Lathe Set-Up Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC lathe equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will run a cell of CNC machines, perform precise quality checks, and make program edits using G&M code to ensure each part meets exact specifications. The position combines hands-on machine operation, technical problem-solving, and consistent use of precision measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve raw materials from the staging area and prepare them for production.
• Load bar stock and various types of metals into CNC HAAS milling and lathe machines.
• Set up and run a cell of three CNC machines, ensuring each machine is properly configured for production.
• Perform first-piece runs and complete 100% quality checks on the initial part to verify conformance to specifications.
• Run production parts and perform quality checks on at least one part every hour.
• Complete approximately three machine set-ups per day, including changeovers between jobs.
• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and various profiling tools to verify part dimensions and ensure parts meet print specifications.
• Maintain dimensional tolerances to within +/- 0.005 inches during production.
• Utilize G&M code on Fanuc controls to edit and adjust programs as needed to correct issues or optimize performance.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make appropriate adjustments to tooling, offsets, and programs.
• Read and interpret blueprints and prints to understand part requirements and machining processes.
• Use live tooling on CNC lathes as required for complex operations.
• Follow established quality procedures and document inspection results as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and equipment guidelines.
• Collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement in machining processes.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 3 years of CNC lathe set-up and operation experience.
• At least 3 years of experience reading and working from prints and blueprints.
• Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes in a production environment.
• Ability to use live tooling on CNC lathe equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret G&M code and perform program edits on Fanuc controls.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for machining processes and changeovers.
• Proficient use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and profiling tools.
• Ability to consistently hold tolerances of +/- 0.005 inches.
• Solid understanding of CNC machining principles, including changeover and set-up processes.
• Competence in print reading and understanding dimensional and geometric requirements.
• Commitment to quality, accuracy, and adherence to inspection requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Conversational programming experience on CNC equipment.
• Experience with Swiss CNC machines.
• Familiarity with CNC HAAS equipment and Fanuc controls.
• Experience in high-volume or multi-machine cell environments.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

The facility is clean, well-lit, and equipped with more than 75 pieces of machining equipment, offering exposure to a wide range of CNC technologies. The standard schedule is a first shift, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an expectation of working approximately 50 hours per week, typically involving overtime on Fridays and minimal weekend work. The environment emphasizes safety and professionalism, with a dress code that includes jeans, steel-toe footwear, high-visibility clothing, and safety glasses. Employees work in a structured manufacturing setting that supports consistent production while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, IN.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
