Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Cloud & Edge Infrastructure

Location: Louisville, KY

Rate: $55–$60/hour on W-2

No C2C or third-party candidates

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to own the reliability, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of infrastructure supporting a large-scale distributed technology environment.

This is a senior-level generalist engineering role for someone who can move comfortably across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD, edge computing, enterprise networking, mobile device management, observability, security, and automation.

The Senior SRE will help define what reliable systems look like, establish measurable reliability standards, and engineer solutions that improve availability and operational performance. This position requires someone equally comfortable developing long-term architecture and getting hands-on to troubleshoot, automate, and solve complex infrastructure problems.

Key Responsibilities

Site Reliability & Observability

• Define and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) .
• Establish and utilize error budgets to balance system reliability with development velocity.
• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions.
• Establish and track reliability metrics and communicate system health to engineering leadership.
• Proactively identify reliability risks before they become production incidents.
• Lead blameless post-incident reviews and root-cause analysis.
• Ensure permanent corrective actions are identified and implemented.
• Improve Mean Time to Detection (MTTD) and Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) .

Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering

• Design and implement scalable, secure, highly available infrastructure primarily within AWS .
• Support environments utilizing Microsoft Azure.
• Engineer solutions using AWS technologies including:
• VPC
• EC2
• ECS
• EKS
• Fargate
• Lambda
• IAM
• RDS
• S3
• Architect and manage containerized workloads using Kubernetes , including EKS and AKS.
• Support distributed and edge Kubernetes deployments.
• Design serverless and container-based infrastructure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform .
• Support architecture across cloud, edge, networking, and device-management environments.

DevOps, CI/CD & Automation

• Build, maintain, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines .
• Develop internal tools and automation that eliminate repetitive operational work.
• Build middleware and API integrations supporting infrastructure operations.
• Automate provisioning, deployment, troubleshooting, and operational processes.
• Develop automation and scripting using Python, Bash, Go, or comparable languages .
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
• Promote engineering solutions and permanent fixes over repeated manual intervention.

Edge, Network & Device Technology

• Design and support Kubernetes-based edge systems deployed across distributed locations.
• Support application deployments and troubleshoot endpoint deployment issues.
• Manage and optimize Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
• Configure and troubleshoot enterprise networking infrastructure.
• Support switches, VLANs, and distributed network environments.
• Participate in incident response and on-call coverage.
• Develop and maintain operational runbooks and troubleshooting procedures.

Security & DevSecOps

• Establish and enforce cloud governance, security policies, and architectural standards.
• Implement cloud security best practices involving:
• IAM
• Network segmentation
• Encryption
• Secrets management
• Conduct security architecture reviews.
• Identify vulnerabilities, configuration issues, and compliance gaps.
• Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines.
• Support automated security scanning, policy validation, and vulnerability management.
• Partner with security teams to implement secure-by-design infrastructure.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, DevOps, security, and engineering teams.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
• Balance strategic architecture decisions with hands-on engineering and operational execution.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of IT infrastructure experience .
• 3+ years focused on Site Reliability Engineering, Cloud Architecture, or Platform Engineering .
• Strong hands-on AWS experience.
• Working experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Strong Kubernetes and container orchestration experience.
• Experience with edge or distributed Kubernetes environments.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD and pipeline development.
• Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with enterprise networking, including:
• Switch configuration
• VLANs
• Network troubleshooting
• Familiarity with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
• Automation and scripting experience using Python, Bash, Go, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience building internal tooling and API integrations.
• Experience defining and operating against SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets .
• Strong Linux command-line skills.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities.
• Ability to work across cloud, edge, networking, automation, and device-management technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Serverless architecture experience with AWS Lambda, Fargate, API Gateway, or EventBridge.
• DevSecOps experience with SAST, DAST, container scanning, and IaC scanning.
• Familiarity with CIS, NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
• AWS and/or Azure certifications.
• Experience with observability platforms such as:
• CloudWatch
• Prometheus
• Grafana
• SIEM solutions
• Experience supporting restaurant, retail, or other highly distributed edge environments .
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
• Windows experience supporting distributed endpoint environments.

This person should be comfortable designing AWS and Kubernetes architecture one day and troubleshooting an edge deployment, network issue, MDM problem, or CI/CD pipeline the next.
