Program CoordinatorThe program coordinator will be responsible for coordinating CSE undergraduate programs at the MSU. The program coordinator will be engaged in advising undergraduate students, resolving student issues and concerns, recruiting undergraduate students, completing academic paperwork for undergraduate and graduate students, and completing other responsibilities as assigned.Salary Grade: 15Please see Staff Compensation Structure for salary ranges.The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Mississippi State University is a vibrant and growing academic unit committed to excellence in education, research, and service. Mississippi State University is classified as an R1 – Very High Research Activity doctoral university under the Carnegie Classification and is designated by the National Security Agency as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations, Cyber Defense Research, and Cyber Defense Education. The department is home to 28 faculty members and serves approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. CSE offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as a jointly administered Computer Engineering program with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Computer Science program includes concentrations in Artificial Intelligence, Systems, Human and Visual Computing, Computational Science, and General Computer Science. Additional undergraduate offerings include a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Cybersecurity and minors in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. CSE also provides an accelerated B.S./M.S. pathway that allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and a master's degree in Computer Science in four academic years plus one additional calendar year. At the graduate level, the department offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, along with M.S. degrees in Cyber Security and Operations, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science. Faculty also supervise graduate students in Computational Engineering. Certificate programs are available in Information Assurance, Cyber Operations, and Computational Biology. The department maintains a strong and diverse research portfolio, with annual research expenditures exceeding $4.6 million in the most recent fiscal year. Core research areas include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, computational science, visualization and graphics, bioinformatics, parallel and distributed computing, software engineering, human?robot interaction, augmented and virtual reality, and computer science education. Faculty actively collaborate across campus through research centers such as the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, the Center for Cyber Innovation, the Center for Computational Science, and the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing & Biotechnology.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Provides academic advising, in conjunction with the faculty, for junior and senior undergraduate students in the programs offered at CSE.2. Meets with prospective engineering undergraduate students and their parents and arranges building tours as requested by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, the Dean of Engineering, or the CSE Department Head. Coordinates undergraduate student recruitment as necessary in consultation with the BCoE's Admissions Coordinator.3. Organizes and conducts orientation sessions for incoming students to their program of study.4. Maintains undergraduate student records for students and related student databases. In conjunction with the department, University Registrar, and Dean of Engineering, reviews transcripts for transfer credit and assist in the certification of undergraduate students for graduation.5. Responds to inquiries pertaining to the undergraduate programs and coordinates communication with prospective students.6. Provides students with information regarding departmental scholarships, solicits applications, and assists Department Head in the selection and administration of such awards.7. Assists the Department Head in the scheduling of engineering classes and classroom assignments. Assists students in gaining admission, as may be appropriate, to sections that are temporarily closed.8. Assists in maintaining records and coordinating changes pertaining to the undergraduate curricula and course descriptions. Interprets University regulations pertaining to undergraduate academics and curricula matters.9. Oversee CSE Ambassadors to ensure students are engaged with recruiting and tours.10. Assists in the development of student recruitment brochures and similar material for dissemination to the public. This will be done in conjunction with the BCoE Publications Manager and approved by the CSE Department Head.11. Assist the Department Head in such other matters as may be required for the successful administration of departmental programs.12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.13. Will assist in the preparation for accreditation visits.14. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Business Manager and Department Head.Minimum Qualifications:1. Bachelor of Science degree.2. Two years of experience in a related field.Preferred Qualifications:1. Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.2. Three years of experience working directly with engineering and/or computer science students.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:1. Basic computer skills required, including competency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.2. Good communication skills, both written and oral.3. Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with a diversity of individuals.4. Basic bookkeeping skills to include preparation and reconciliation reports for program expenditures.5. Strong organizational skills.6. Ability to learn new skills and workflow processes.Working Conditions and Physical Effort:1. No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor setting.2. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.3. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.4.
