We are looking for an experienced accounting specialist to oversee core financial activities for a multi-entity paper and packaging organization in Wisconsin. This position plays a central role in maintaining accurate records, supporting timely close processes, and delivering meaningful financial analysis to leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounting records and financial reporting across multiple legal entities, ensuring transactions are reflected accurately in each general ledger.
• Manage month-end and year-end close activities by posting journal entries, reviewing account activity, and completing balance sheet reconciliations on schedule.
• Reconcile intercompany balances and investigate differences so transactions are aligned correctly between related entities and recorded in the appropriate reporting period.
• Record payroll-related accounting activity, including recurring entries and period-end accruals tied to bi-weekly payroll processing.
• Review financial results, identify unusual trends or inconsistencies, and research discrepancies to support accurate reporting.
• Prepare bank account reconciliations and maintain reliable fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
• Perform monthly profit and loss variance analysis with attention to labor spending, material consumption, and overhead distribution.
• Strengthen accounting processes and internal controls to support compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting by compiling financial information, building schedules, and assisting the Controller with planning activities.
• Coordinate with internal teams, auditors, tax advisors, and other external parties to provide documentation, support reporting requirements, and assist with audit and regulatory filings.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience in a comparable role.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience; 6–10 years is strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practical application in a multi-entity environment.
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close, general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, along with experience using enterprise accounting or ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with careful attention to accuracy and deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead discussions around financial results.
• CPA credential or public accounting background is an advantage.
