Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer represents the organization in the acquisition and uninterrupted supply of materials and services required to assure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction. This role is responsible for identifying and sourcing externally purchased materials and services, evaluating suppliers, and securing the best overall value, quality, delivery, and service for the business.The Senior Buyer collaborates closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to support business objectives and reports to the Director of Supply Chain.Senior Buyer Responsibilities:Demonstrate sound judgment and data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentIndependently identify and resolve complex supply, cost, quality, and delivery issues through structured problem-solving and root cause analysisServe as a role model and informal leader by promoting best practices in sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and cross-functional collaborationLead strategic sourcing initiatives to achieve annual business unit and corporate cost-savings objectivesDevelop and manage long-term agreements, consignment programs, blanket purchase agreements, and supplier contractsDrive supplier development, cost of quality reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with Engineering and QualityMonitor market conditions, supply chain risks, and industry trends, communicating impacts and opportunities to the organizationSupport compliance with ITAR requirements, AMETEK Export/Import policies, and Small Business Administration (SBA) objectivesTravel as required to support supplier visits, audits, sourcing activities, and training effortsEssential Job Responsibilities:Obtain product and service information including pricing, quality, availability, and delivery schedulesManage supplier relationships and maintain qualified alternate sources of supplySupport new product introductions through supplier involvement, sourcing, and cost analysisMaintain accurate standard costs and support annual cost updatesNegotiate pricing, terms, and contracts utilizing industry best practicesCoordinate and lead supplier meetings, documenting actions and driving follow-throughDeliver departmental KPIs including cost savings, supplier OTD, inventory management, and supplier developmentManage supplier transitions and sourcing changes while minimizing supply riskSupport working capital objectives through inventory optimization and payment term negotiationsResolve supplier quality and performance issues, including corrective actions, returns, and creditsSupport achievement of greater than 95% on-time delivery and prevent material shortages impacting productionAct as liaison between Supply Chain, Sales, Production, Quality, Finance, Shipping/Receiving, and Engineering on material-related mattersMaintain expertise in ERP systems, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologiesPosition Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experienceFive or more years of progressively responsible purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environmentThis is an in-person position located in Woodstock, New York; relocation support availableKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specificationsStrong understanding of supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, and production control principlesProven ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and manage strategic supplier relationshipsStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently, manage changing priorities, and deliver results under pressureEffective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organizationResults-oriented with strong attention to detail and continuous improvement mindsetComputer Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle ERPStrong data analysis and reporting capabilitiesDemonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs.
