At Poynette High School (enrollment approx. 300 students), we prioritize a comprehensive service delivery model. We view our student services team not just as reactionary staff, but as strategic leaders and vital mental health clinicians essential to student success. You will be fully integrated into the fabric of our school culture, moving beyond traditional silos to engage in direct counseling, school-wide prevention, and collaborative problem-solving.

General Function

The person that joins our team will collaborate with the Student Services team to address the academic, career, social, and emotional needs of high school students. This role serves as a vital bridge between the school, families, and community resources to ensure an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.

Essential Position Duties & Responsibilities

Direct Student & Family Support

• Provide individual and group counseling to meet students' personal, academic, and social-emotional growth needs.
• Provide casework services to resolve educational, social, and emotional difficulties interfering with school attendance, adjustment, and achievement.
• Act as a bridge and liaison between the District, families, and community mental health/social service providers to improve parental understanding and access to care.

Assessment, Intervention, & Crisis Management

• Lead and collaborate with student teams to complete suicide risk assessments, Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and safety plans.
• Complete AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) assessments and intervention and prevention services.
• Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 assessments and meetings.
• Provide real-time crisis prevention, management, intervention, and response efforts at the school level.

Systems Leadership & Collaboration

• Serve as a leader in the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), helping identify students needing instructional, behavioral, or mental health interventions.
• Provide teacher consultation on classroom management, neurodiversity, trauma-informed practices, and differentiated instruction.
• Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive school counseling and guidance-related curriculum.

Qualifications

• Education: Master's Degree or higher in Social Work, School Psychology, or School Counseling from an accredited college or university is preferred. Internships will also be considered.
• Licensure: Must possess, be eligible for, or be willing to obtain an applicable Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)
• Experience: Evidence of experience and/or educational background sufficient to meet the wide range of responsibilities of a secondary school environment.

Skills: Strong human relations and communication skills are critical to success. Ability to analyze data and apply empirically based research to interventions. Sensitivity to issues related to the disproportionality of diverse learners and family/school partnerships.
