Assistant, Associate or Full Professor without Tenure, UW Pediatrics, Cardiology Division

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the University of Washington invites applications for two faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor without tenure due to funding, with an anticipated start date of July, 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment. (Assistant Professors are eligible for a 3-year term eligible for renewal beginning July 1, 2030).

Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in Pediatric Cardiology. The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Provide care of patients with congenital heart defects (CHDs) from neonates to young adults, as well as acquired conditions (e.g., Kawasaki disease, myocarditis, rheumatic heart disease, arrhythmias).
• Management of acute cardiac patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and cardiac wards.
• Conduct comprehensive outpatient longitudinal evaluations and cardiology counseling.
• Identify indications and provide basic interpretation of diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, basic electrophysiology (EP) studies, advanced cardiac imaging (Cardiac MRI and CT), and non-invasive imaging.

Clinical Care:

• Participates in outpatient, inpatient cardiology and consultation. Provides excellent clinical care and in the process, supports safe, efficient and high-quality services.
• Applicants will have the option to choose a primarily outpatient focused clinical model or a primarily inpatient focused clinical model.
• Ensures appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients.
• Engages with consultants and other providers in a multi-disciplinary model of care.
• Act as the primary liaison between families and a large cardiac care team, coordinating care closely with pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, hospitalists and neonatologists.
• Explain complex congenital anatomy, surgical/interventional pathways, and long-term prognoses to families."

Planning:

• Works with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained.
• Participates in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children's leadership.

Regulatory:

• Supports timely review of any patient safety events.
• Responds in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints.
• Supports legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Supports and participates in M&M program, Quality Improvement initiatives, and identifies opportunities for improvement
• Provides input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies
• Maintains professionalism with regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families.

Research:

• Identifies opportunities and actively participate in scientific investigations and collaborations.
• Maintains academic productivity commensurate for rank and for the Clinician-Scholar.

Education:

• Supports cardiac clinical educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, APPs, and nursing.
• Participates and contributes to quality improvement projects and/or curriculum development.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children's, UW Medicine, and FHCC), and are part of the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $22,589 - $27,336 per month ($271,068 - $328,032 annually), Associate Professor range: $26,661 - $31,974 per month ($319,932 - $383,688 annually), Professor range: $32,858 - $41,175 per month ($394,296 - $494,100 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan.

Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS).

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Applicants for these positions must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).
• Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Pediatric Cardiology
• Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
