Control Panel Fabricator / Panel Builder

A Control Panel Fabricator (Panel Builder) is responsible for the assembly, wiring, testing, and quality control of industrial control panels used to operate machinery and electrical systems. This role works from engineering drawings and schematics to install components such as PLCs, VFDs, relays, and terminal blocks while ensuring compliance with applicable electrical and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Panel Layout & Assembly
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
  • Lay out, drill, tap, and mount electrical components and hardware within enclosures and on back panels.
  • Install DIN rail, wire duct, relays, terminal blocks, VFDs, PLCs, and related components.
• Wiring & Termination
  • Route, label, bundle, and terminate wires and cables according to wiring diagrams and company standards.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring for control and power circuits.
  • Ensure neat, organized, and serviceable panel wiring practices.
• Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Perform continuity and functional testing using digital multimeters and other test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot wiring issues and component failures.
  • Verify panel operation prior to shipment or installation.
• Documentation & Quality Control
  • Maintain red-line markups and communicate drawing discrepancies or field changes.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and BOM verification as needed.
• Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety procedures and electrical safety practices.
  • Build panels in compliance with UL 508A, NEC, and applicable customer standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial panel building, electrical assembly, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with industrial control components including:
  • PLCs
  • VFDs
  • Relays
  • Power supplies
  • Motor starters
• Proficient with hand and power tools including:
  • Wire strippers
  • Crimpers
  • Drills
  • Knockout punches
  • Saws
• Strong understanding of electrical wiring methods and control systems.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move components and enclosures up to 50 lbs.
• Good manual dexterity for detailed wiring and assembly tasks.
