Custodian
Position Overview:
Performs routine custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Essential Job Functions

• Cleans, sweeps, mops, and buffs floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets; dusts furniture and disinfects surfaces; empties trash receptacles; moves furniture; cleans windows, window sills, and mirrors; washes walls; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; sweeps halls and outside walks, gathers recyclables and picks up trash from grounds and buildings.
• Performs, inspects, observes and reports conditions affecting the safety, security, and/or economical operation of facilities, fixtures, and furnishings.
• Operates mechanical cleaning equipment including, but not limited to, buffers, vacuums, large scrubbers, sweepers, and extraction equipment.

Knowledge/ Skills:

• Knowledge of use of chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
• Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
• Ability to read and write; to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; to communicate; and to operate cleaning equipment.
• Performs other duties as directed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• 1 year work experience
• Basic knowledge of cleaning tools, products, and procedures
• Valid New Mexico Driver's License
• Able to pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check

This position will be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays or other times as assigned.
Daily activity level: Primarily physical work on a continual basis
Physical characteristics Climbing Ladders; Bending/kneeling/crawling; Lifting/carrying/push/pull of 50 lbs.; Walking long distances.
Exposures: Exposure to biological agents, human/animal body fluids, blood borne pathogens, excrement or tuberculosis; Handling hazardous chemicals or toxic substances; Exposure to excessive amounts of dust, flying particles, toxic vapors, noxious fumes or mists; Exposure to vibrations from equipment or operations; Exposure to sharp objects. Working with extremely hot or cold objects; Falling objects could injure feet; Working outside in inclement weather conditions
