AI Systems Engineer

Owle AI is built by MIT alums to transform healthcare to improve patient outcomes. We are looking for a AI systems engineer to join our growing team. Responsibilities Design and build backend services using Python, FastAPI, REST APIs, WebSockets, and async workers Build agent workflows using tools such as LangGraph, custom state machines, or equivalent orchestration patterns Implement structured tool calling, validation, permissions, retries, fallback logic, and human-in-the-loop approval Design Postgres schemas for events, alerts, users, facilities, audit trails, and model outputs Use Redis or queues for real-time state, background jobs, and task coordination Deploy containerized services using Docker and Linux-based environments Build local/on-prem inference workflows using open-source or local LLMs where appropriate Create monitoring, logging, and test infrastructure to make the system reliable Work directly with the founder and clinical/product stakeholders to turn ambiguous workflows into working software Move fast while maintaining high standards for reliability, privacy, and safety Required Skills Experience building backend systems with FastAPI, Django, Flask, Node, or similar Strong SQL and Postgres experience Docker and Linux deployment experience Experience with REST APIs, WebSockets, background workers, and event-driven systems Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, RAG, tool calling, or structured outputs Ability to design systems with logging, testing, monitoring, retries, and failure handling Strong product judgment and ability to ship under ambiguity Strong Plus Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or custom agent orchestration Experience with local LLMs such as Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, or open-source models Experience with edge/on-prem deployment Experience with time-series data, sensor data, anomaly detection, or event classification Experience in healthcare, clinical data, HIPAA-aware systems, or regulated environments Experience with ML evaluation, false-positive/false-negative tracking, and model monitoring Full-stack ability with React, TypeScript, or dashboard development What We Are Not Looking For Someone who only knows how to build chatbot demos Someone who only does research but does not ship production systems Someone who overcomplicates architecture before proving the core workflow #J-18808-Ljbffr Owle AI
