Laboratory Technician 1-3

Overview Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Technician 1-3 to join our team! We are a 24-bed acute care critical access hospital serving the Florida Parishes region of Southeast Louisiana. We offer a wide range of services, including general surgery and a 24‑hour emergency department. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of advanced level clinical diagnostic tests without direct supervision. Qualifications Two years of general laboratory experience; or Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; or An associate or bachelor’s degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; or Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. Experience Substitution Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience. Necessary Special Requirement Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist‑Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311‑1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. Job Duties Performs advanced diagnostic laboratory tests in Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Parasitology, and Serology. Performs tests without direct supervision, including tests on patients of all ages, and is responsible for working all shifts. Performs ABO, Rh and routine screenings; performs all cytological procedures; preforms gram stains on cultures; performs fine needle aspirations for histology and has knowledge of tissue preservation, responding to all other pathology questions in the absence of the Pathologist. Assists the Laboratory Information Specialist and performs CAP inspections as required for accreditation. Performs phlebotomies to collect blood samples for testing, trains subordinate and/or new personnel, maintains a clean and organized work area, and stocks and rotates supplies for laboratory. Attends educational in‑services, mandatory training, and annual review as required by hospital policy and procedure, or as deemed necessary by the supervisor. Work Location: This Laboratory Technician 1‑3 is located in the Pathology Department. Work Hours: Shift will be determined by the department Manager. Shift Differentials: In addition to base pay, shift pay and certification pay are included only when working.
