Position Information Position/Rank: Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician/Healthcare Epidemiologist / Rank dependent on qualifications Department: 00848 - Pediatric Administration City: Salt Lake City, UT Track: Track dependent on qualifications Open Date: 10/02/2025 Requisition Number: PRN03910F Type: Faculty Overview The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah School of Medicine is recruiting for a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician with interest and experience in Hospital Epidemiology. This position is open to both junior faculty as well as more senior faculty including those with leadership experience in Hospital Epidemiology. Responsibilities will include a significant role in the infection prevention and hospital epidemiology program as well as clinical consultation on the inpatient service and in the Infectious Diseases clinic. Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital, a 290‑bed children’s hospital ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals, and in the University of Utah and Intermountain Healthcare systems, including at our new Primary Children’s Hospital location in Lehi, UT. In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work that can include investigation, education, administration/service and/or advocacy. Hospital Epidemiology Team The Hospital Epidemiology team at Primary Children’s Hospital involves multiple collaborators as well as three Infectious Diseases physicians and four Infection Preventionists. We advise Children’s Health for Intermountain Healthcare as it relates to infection prevention for children throughout the system. Research in the Division focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial stewardship, health services research, value‑based care, development and impact of diagnostic tests, and improving care for children with cancer and transplants. Public Health Collaboration We collaborate with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, the CDC, and other state and county health departments on outbreak investigations, statewide surveillance, and community‑wide antimicrobial stewardship efforts. Opportunities exist for quality improvement projects, combined epidemiology/antimicrobial stewardship projects, research, and involvement in a highly infectious response team. Qualifications Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatrics. Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases or Infectious Diseases. Demonstrated research, quality improvement skills, or scholarly activity. Experience in hospital epidemiology preferred. Ability to work within an academic environment and contribute to clinical services, research, and education.
