Senior MEP Engineer

RCM Technologies is seeking a highly accomplished and detail-oriented Senior MEP Engineer with 10+ years of experience in the design, evaluation, construction, commissioning, and operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will lead engineering projects across a variety of market sectors, providing technical expertise, project leadership, and client support throughout all phases of project delivery. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience with building systems, facility infrastructure, utilities, energy systems, and multidisciplinary engineering coordination. Candidates may come from consulting engineering, industrial, healthcare, higher education, commercial, mission critical, manufacturing, Life Sciences, or other complex facility environments. The emphasis of this role is on technical MEP expertise, project execution, and client leadership, rather than experience in any single industry sector.

Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: Lead planning, design, procurement support, construction administration, commissioning, and closeout of MEP and facility infrastructure projects for Life Sciences and industrial clients.
• Engineering Accountability: Independently develop and/or supervise engineering work products that meet customer quality requirements, including basis of design documents, calculations, specifications, drawings, technical reports, budgets, and schedules.
• Facility & Utility Systems: Provide technical leadership for HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, plumbing, fire protection, clean utilities, process utilities, process gases, chilled water, steam, Building Automation Systems (Client), controls, and central utility plant systems.
• Jurisdictional Compliance: Ensure drawings, specifications, and construction activities comply with Puerto Rico Building Code requirements, IBC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, FDA, cGMP, ISO, and client quality standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with clients, contractors, vendors, operations, quality, validation, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver project objectives within budget, schedule, safety, and operational constraints.
• Technical Assessments: Conduct site investigations, facility assessments, feasibility studies, risk reviews, constructability reviews, and technical evaluations to identify effective design solutions and mitigate execution risks.
• Design Excellence: Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, equipment selections, procurement packages, cost estimates, and technical documentation using AutoCAD, Revit or 3D modeling tools, scheduling and controls software, spreadsheets, and current engineering technologies.
• Field Oversight: Support construction and installation activities, respond to RFIs, review submittals, verify field conditions, coordinate shutdown requirements, and resolve technical issues while maintaining safety, quality, and cGMP expectations.
• System Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, energy efficiency, maintenance access, operational consistency, and lifecycle value through sustainable and practical engineering solutions.
• Business Development and Mentorship: Participate in client meetings, proposal preparation, scope development, technical presentations, and relationship-building activities supporting growth of the Puerto Rico Life Sciences engineering practice. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and subcontracted engineering resources while promoting task ownership, sound engineering judgment, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience, including at least 7 years supporting MEP design, building systems, facility infrastructure, utility systems, industrial facilities, manufacturing, commercial, healthcare, higher education, mission critical, or other complex facility environments. Life Sciences or GMP-regulated facility experience is preferred, but not required.
• Technical Leadership: Ability to define problems, establish scope, prepare budgets and schedules, plan work, monitor staffing, provide technical direction, review deliverables, and communicate project status to management and clients.
• Industry Knowledge: Knowledgeable in standard practices for engineering design, construction, fabrication, manufacture, equipment procurement, and applicable industry codes and standards.
• Regulatory Expertise: Working knowledge of IBC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, commissioning, and facility engineering practices. GMP, FDA, ISO, and validation lifecycle experience is desirable for Life Sciences assignments.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, technical writing, project controls tools, and engineering analysis programs. Revit, BIM, Bluebeam, CMMS, and 3D modeling experience preferred.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, on technical and non-technical subjects. Fully bilingual English/Spanish capability is strongly preferred for Puerto Rico client and field coordination.
• Business Mindset: Strong task ownership, customer focus, resourcefulness, and ability to develop efficient technical solutions while supporting additional client service opportunities where appropriate.
• Travel: Willingness and ability to travel within Puerto Rico and to the Continental United States as required by project and client needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree: Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related technical field.
• Project Management: PMP certification or demonstrated experience managing capital projects, budgets, technical resources, and multidisciplinary delivery teams. Experience with Microsoft Project, Planner, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Procore, or equivalent scheduling and controls tools is desirable.
• Specialized Credentials: LEED, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Utility Design Professional (CUDP), commissioning, validation, or similar technical certifications are desirable.
• Facility Experience: Direct experience supporting laboratories, cleanrooms, manufacturing suites, utility plants, equipment installations, facility expansions, renovations, and brownfield infrastructure upgrades.
• Core Competencies: Technical leadership, engineering design excellence, client relationship management, strategic problem solving, business development, construction support, safety leadership, mentorship, and continuous improvement.

Certifications & Licenses

• Professional Engineer (PE) License: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in a U.S. state, territory, or Puerto Rico is strongly preferred. Candidates actively pursuing PE licensure, including those who have passed the FE examination and are progressing toward registration, will also be considered. The ability to obtain reciprocal licensure in Puerto Rico and other U.S. jurisdictions is highly desirable.
• Safety Certification: OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred or ability to obtain based on project requirements.
• Driver's License: Valid driver's license required for site visits, client meetings, and field support assignments.
