Job Title: Production Operator

Job Description

This role supports multiple production areas by operating machinery, blending and mixing products, and handling materials to manufacture corrosion protection solutions. You will rotate between the powder room, liquid/oil room, paint room, and occasional outdoor ammonia operations, performing labor-intensive tasks in a controlled but demanding industrial environment while maintaining safety, quality, and accurate production records.

Responsibilities

• Rotate between powder room, liquid/oil room, paint room, and outdoor ammonia operations as production needs require.
• Produce corrosion-inhibiting powder in a sealed, controlled powder room environment while following established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Operate blending and mixing machines to combine dry powders and chemicals according to batch sheets and work orders.
• Mix dry powders, transfer chemicals, and maintain accurate production and batch records.
• Weigh products on scales and ensure correct quantities and mixtures for each batch.
• Lift and handle 50 lb bags consistently throughout the day, including dumping materials into mixers and shoveling powder into bins and containers.
• Clean and maintain machinery and work areas to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
• Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to pull materials from stock, move barrels, containers, pallets, and other materials throughout the facility.
• Fill 55-gallon drums with corrosion solutions using hoses and ensure proper labeling and handling.
• Fill machines and hoppers with bags of product (up to 50 lbs) by manually lifting and dumping materials.
• Climb step ladders to access mixers and hoppers and safely load materials from elevated positions.
• Work from batch sheets and work orders to perform basic measurements, including fractions and mixtures, to achieve correct product specifications.
• Monitor machines and products during production, performing regular inspections to ensure quality and consistency.
• Perform more detailed measurements, conversions, and mixture adjustments in the paint room to meet precise product requirements.
• Load and unload barrels, bins, and pallets from trucks manually and with forklifts.
• Follow and maintain good manufacturing practices (GMP) and adhere to all safety and quality procedures.
• Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to support machine operation, changeovers, and minor adjustments.
• Troubleshoot basic issues with mixing, blending, or machine operation and escalate concerns as needed.
• Work outside at times in both summer and winter for ammonia-related production, including dumping, mixing, and monitoring products, typically rotating outside for no more than four hours per shift.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, masks, gloves, and eye protection as required for each area and product.
• Maintain reliable attendance, arrive on time, and contribute to a focused, drama-free production environment.

Essential Skills

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, twist, and lift 50 lbs consistently throughout the day without restrictions.
• Ability to perform basic measurements, including fractions and mixtures, to follow batch sheets and work orders accurately.
• Ability to read and comprehend English documents, instructions, and work orders.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with machines, mixers, and production equipment.
• Comfort training on and operating sit-down and stand-up forklifts.
• Capability and willingness to perform labor-intensive tasks in a dirty, industrial, and hot/cold environment.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and use PPE such as respirators, masks, gloves, and eye protection.
• Attention to detail for monitoring machines, inspecting products, and maintaining accurate records.
• Willingness to rotate between different production areas and adapt to changing work assignments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous forklift experience (sit-down and/or stand-up) is a strong plus.
• Experience with mixing or blending in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Experience with troubleshooting or equipment setup in a production environment.
• Experience working in dirty, industrial environments with exposure to heat, cold, and various odors.
• Familiarity with machine operation, batching, and general labor in manufacturing.
• Experience with material handling, including moving barrels, containers, pallets, and bulk materials.
• Exposure to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environments.
• Comfort using hand tools and performing basic mechanical tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret basic production documentation such as batch sheets and work orders.

Work Environment

This is a blue-collar, industrial production environment focused on manufacturing corrosion protection solutions for a wide range of markets, including petrochemical, metalworking, telecommunications, electronics, utilities, construction, military and government, marine, basic metals, automotive, and equipment maintenance. You will work in multiple areas, including powder rooms, liquid/oil rooms, paint rooms, and outdoor ammonia operations. The powder room is a sealed, controlled environment where powder can be present in the air, and you will use respirators and other PPE. The facility can become very hot, especially in the summer, with temperatures that can exceed 100 degrees, and you may also work in cold conditions during winter, particularly when assigned to outdoor tasks. Different smells from chemicals, powders, and other materials are present, so you must not be sensitive to strong or varying odors. The work can be very dirty and labor-intensive, involving frequent lifting of 50 lb bags, shoveling powder, climbing step ladders, and handling drums and barrels. You will operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts, use hand tools, and work with mixers, hoppers, and batching equipment. Uniforms and protective PPE, including respirators, masks, gloves, and eye protection, are provided as needed for each area. Production teams are relatively small, with about 20 total production employees across mixing and related departments, allowing for close collaboration and cross-training.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
