Location: East Ridge High School

Hours per Day: 8 hours per day 7:30am- 4:0 p.m. with hour unpaid lunch

Starting Pay: $19.21 per hour (Step 1)

Testing: Internal Office Professional candidates must have passed the qualifying testing PRIOR to bidding. Successful candidates must have a qualifying score in each of the following testing areas to be considered for the position: Health Care Assessment, Microsoft Word, Basic Office Skills, and Following Written Instructions.

Position Summary

This position provides support for the building media specialist in operating the building media center. Position provides media services to the students and school staff.

Primary Job Functions

General Office Functions:

• Assist students, staff, and parents, including: greet people entering the Media Center; assists with directions, information, provides positive and friendly customer service in person and over the telephone. Remains cheerful, calm, and professional in all situations.
• Perform clerical support duties such as: data entry, copying, correspondence and spreadsheets using Word, Excel, and Google Sheets. Shares with technology support and District Media Specialist.
• Maintain confidentiality and data privacy for employees and students. Treat students and staff with fairness and equity. Understands and supports students and staff with varying cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious, and/or language backgrounds.

Department Specific Job Functions:

• Students and Staff:
• Supervise students and maintain discipline according to the library discipline plan set up by school administration in collaboration with the District Media Specialist. Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning space for all.
• Respond to student needs and requests in an efficient and timely manner. Assist students with book selection and special projects. Provide materials to teachers for special units of instruction.
• Maintain Media Center schedule via Outlook Calendar. Maintain workspaces for students and staff.
• Technology:
• Assist Building Tech as needed with the computer technology in the building. First person to provide basic help and troubleshooting for Chromebook Issues. Manage Chromebook issues including broken, repaired and returned devices.
• Communicate with students and staff regarding Chromebook issues and exchanges. Maintain Loaner and backup Chromebook inventory for broken devices and testing. Communicate with building tech about device repairs, issues, and exchanges. Maintain Chromebook carts where applicable.
• Assist and provide testing coordinator with tech resources. Assist staff with spare technology devices as needed. Learn new library technology with help from the District Media Specialist through district media service.
• Collection, Circulation, and Media Center Operations:
• Maintain your school's library management system, Destiny. Circulation of books, textbooks, equipment and technology for students and staff. Shelve all returned library books, textbooks, and bookroom books. Textbook, novels, non-fiction, and fiction inventory as needed. Book repair and weeding as needed, weeded books approved by District Media Specialist.
• Manage overdue notices each month. Assess and collect fines for overdue materials. Transfer materials to and from other sites. Process library book orders not performed by book vendor. Catalog new resources including textbooks and bookroom novel sets. Manage trimester textbook and novel checkouts for students and staff. Notification and collection of fines for lost and damaged books, resources, and technology. Manage allocated media center supply budget. Assist the District Media Specialist with researching, requesting, and processing of library books, supplies, and other media center materials.

Job Specifications (Education, License, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent for all new hires after July 1, 2006.
• Skills assessment in accordance with established OPEIU testing process.
• Actively participates in district-sponsored training when offered.
• Excellent customer service skills in person and on the phone.
• Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• General clerical skills that include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
• Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
• Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
• No written reprimand or higher within the past 12 months.
• Not on a Performance Improvement Plan (e.g. Job Target and/or Plan of Assistance)
• Must take part in a standardized interview process conducted by HR and the Department/Building Administration. A score of 70% is required to pass the interview. If the bidder does not meet the minimum threshold to pass the interview, the next qualified bidder will be invited to interview.
