Position Summary Mortgage Loan Originator The Bilingual Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is responsible for proactively soliciting new mortgage business and selling TTCU mortgage products to meet loan quality and production goals. The MLO supports TTCU’s strategic effort in growing the mortgage business and delivering extraordinary service to members and potential members, granting or denying mortgage applications and initiating processing and preliminary underwriting to ensure timely closings in compliance with regulatory requirements including the Bank Secrecy Act. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities The MLO exercises independent business judgment and discretion in granting and denying loan applications, ensuring they serve the best financial interest of both the applicant and TTCU, and submits loans to underwriting with a final recommendation. Educates and advises members on the home buying process, conducts applicant interviews in person or over the phone, obtains and evaluates loan information, and maintains communication throughout the process to answer questions about loan terms, closing expectations, and mortgage management. Utilizes business acumen to expand and develop TTCU referral relationships with realtors, builders, and third‑party origination groups, creating and presenting TTCU products and services to real estate groups, and judiciously attends community events to represent TTCU. Consults with current and potential members about ongoing and future financial needs, positions TTCU as a trusted financial solutions provider, and encourages continued use of available services to meet members’ individual goals. Conducts research and analyzes potential new loans, members, and relationships by evaluating sales database information and reaching out to members to provide information on available products. Engages in continuing education and development regarding regulatory obligations, policies, and legislation to maintain legal and TTCU compliance. Uses, develops, and updates lending software and tools to conduct initial credit, underwriting, and financial analysis for mortgage recommendations. Generates sales production from an internal list of members through outbound phone calls, email, and other electronic communication methods. Minimum Qualifications Educational Requirements: Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline. Experience: Minimum of 2 years processing and/or closing FHA, VA, FHLMC, FNMA, 184, and USDA loans; 1 year proven negotiation and sales experience. Certificates/Licenses: Ability to qualify with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System). Job Knowledge: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook), and ability to learn proprietary software such as FSP, OnBase, Touche, and Cisco Agent Desktop. Working Knowledge of underwriting requirements and ability to read and understand credit reports and appraisals. Strong organization, attention to detail, and accuracy. Interpersonal Skills Advanced written and verbal communication, including good grammar and telephone skills. Ability to create an atmosphere that promotes TTCU’s core values by maintaining a high level of personal integrity, presenting a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor, and fostering teamwork among employees. Working Conditions Work performed indoors in a climate‑controlled, shared workspace with minimal noise. Responsibilities performed independently or with limited supervision, requiring clear communication, logical delivery of information, basic mathematical accuracy, calm professional demeanor with diverse cultures, ability to handle high‑pressure deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and exercise discretion on confidential matters. Physical Demands Primarily sedentary work involving up to 20 lbs lifting, reliable attendance, operation of office equipment (telephone, copier, facsimile, calculator), computer work for 6–8 hours daily, occasional extended hours, and occasional stair climbing in emergencies.
