Apply now and join the city that's building careers and shaping a stronger tomorrow!General Statement of Job The Plant Electrician performs skilled and complex maintenance and repair work on a variety of electrical, control, and power distribution equipment at water and wastewater treatment plants and related systems, as well as other duties as required, under regular supervision.Essential FunctionsInstalls, repairs, maintains, and modifies electrical and electronic equipmentTroubleshoots, repairs, and maintains low and medium voltage (up to 5000 volts) equipment: electric motors, motor starters, electrical control panels, variable frequency drives, soft starters and switch gearOperates, maintains and troubleshoots emergency power generators and transformersTroubleshoots, repairs, and modifies wiring as required on electrical motors, motor controls and associated electrical equipment at the water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, wells pump stations, booster pumps stations and lift stationsInstalls, repairs and troubleshoots lighting circuits and electrical panelsInstalls and replaces electrical conduits, fittings, cables and wiring devicesPerforms preventive and predictive maintenance testing of electrical equipment and systemsRelated tasks :Troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies electrical and electronic systemsMakes repairs and changes to switch gear and transfer switches on emergency power generatorsTests emergency power generatorsMaintains equipment records, use computer maintenance management software to document work activitiesPerforms related tasks as requiredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of:Standard practices, tools, terminology, and functions of the electrical trade and the hazards involvedElectrical theory, and a thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as State and Local electrical codes and ordinancesThe safety hazards of the work including arc flash and of the necessary safety precautionsSafety hazards including but not limited to Arc Flash Hazard labelsProper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as use of insulated tools and other safety related precautionsOSHA recommendations and requirements regarding best practices while working on or near energized equipmentGeneral office practices and proceduresSkilled in:The use of electrical maintenance, repair, and test equipmentTroubleshooting and mechanical diagnosticsTechniques necessary to determine the nominal voltage of exposed live partsTechniques necessary to determine safe clearance distances and the corresponding voltages to which the incumbent will be exposedMicrosoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and general computer proficiencyReading comprehension – both of routine communications as well as technical manuals, diagrams, or other work-related documentsThe use of electrical maintenance and repair and test equipmentAbility to:Participate in emergency twenty-four (24) hour call out status rotationPerform essential functions and related tasks while using best judgement and application of necessary safety precautions.
