The main emphasis is implementation of plans and directions as prescribed for the protection of lives, property, and prevention of crime, enforcement of all laws, and maintenance of public order.ACCOUNTABILITIESReports to: Police SergeantSupervises: Has no supervisory responsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Performs car or foot patrol, investigations, traffic, emergency response and other law enforcement activities during an assigned shift. Includes, but is not limited to handling citizen complaints, information and assistance requests, disputes, crime deterrence, nuisance calls, emergency care, arrests, property recovery, animal control, accident investigation, first aid, etc.2. Participates in Police Officer training and public safety preparedness programs. Includes maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws and regulations related to police performance.3. Establishes and maintains proficiency and safety awareness with firearms, less-lethal devices, motor vehicles, communication equipment and other public safety equipment. Includes maintenance of assigned and departmental equipment and periodic qualifications.4. Actively supports good community relations through courteous and professional dealings with individuals and the public in general. Routinely participates in public relations programs, addresses various civic and community groups and works with groups and safety programs in addition to handling of complaints and other normal citizen contacts.5. Completes reports and communications as required by federal, state, local and departmental rules and regulations. Prepares correspondence and/or special reports as requested.6. Supports organization effectiveness by promoting positive public safety attitudes toward personnel, policies, procedures and morale.7. Assists attorneys in prosecution efforts. Testifies in court and completes court related duties as needed.8. Maintains a constant awareness of public safety. Courteously informs citizens of potential security defects or risks. Notifies the proper authorities of traffic hazards. Reports on weather, accident, fire and other impending conditions which threaten public safety.9. Minimum Qualifications A. Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Minnesota Peace Officer. B. Must have and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license. C. Successful completion of hiring examination and background check. D. Successful completion of the department’s Field Training Program.2. Desirable Education and Experience A.
