Job Title

Martinsburg VA Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. Duties

• Physician's clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process.
• Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the Nephrology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease.
• Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examination
• Order appropriate diagnostic tests and work-up
• Review and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate action
• Formulate and record diagnostic impressions
• Refer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the community
• Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other health care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give advice
• Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations.
• Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students.
• May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
• Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc.
• Demonstrates current clinical practice.
• Attend Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences.
• Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.
• Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education.
• Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm
