Telecommunications Engineer

Location: Downtown Houston, TX

Duration: long term contract

FLSA: Exempt

Must have relevant industry experience in downstream/chemical/Petrochem/LNG large scale industrial projects ( NOT LOOKING FOR IT/Telecoms industry ).

Job Description:

Looking for a Telecommunications Professional to lead the definition of the telecommunications and IT scope, from early conceptual through detail design, for medium, large and world-scale oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical projects.

Job Posting Description:

Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

1. Lead the definition of the telecommunications and IT scope, from early conceptual through detail design, for medium, large and world-scale oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical projects.
2. Present to and coordinate with customers on telecommunication strategy.
3. Develop telecommunication program strategy through all phases of the stage gate process
4. Direct critical activities requiring knowledge and expertise in telecommunications, IT, and cyber security
5. Direct the efforts of equipment suppliers and third-party design engineering and construction contractors
6. Develop conceptual scopes and write specifications and requirements for telecommunications/IT/cyber security projects
7. Prepare accurate and complete designs and calculations as required to meet project requirements.
8. Conduct field investigations when needed; produce field reports with detailed sketches.
9. Coordinate with other disciplines and assist engineers and/or designers to ensure an effective, quality product.
10. Keep up to date on new engineering processes, techniques, and standards.
11. Provide technical guidance to the design team.
12. Engineer multi-vendor solutions that are fault resilient with integrations that span vendor platforms.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills: 

1.       EDUCATION: 4-year bachelor’s degree

2.       15 years related work experience

3.       Total Minimum 10 years of experience in industry

4.       Experience and working knowledge related to the design, configuration, installation, and testing in all or most of the following systems: closed circuit television (CCTV), personnel access control, perimeter intrusion detection, public address/general alarm (PA/GA), wired and wireless network systems, telephony, digital radio, marine, microwave systems.

5.       Knowledge of cyber security implementation methods.

6.       Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present, design, plan, and to build relationships with customers

7.       Experience computer aided drawing package is a plus

8.       Experience developing specifications, system design, and component selection

9.       Industry experience in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical facilities

10.    Experience leading initiatives and managing suppliers

11.    Knowledge of Instrument calculation computer applications.

12.    Experience working with other disciplines and understanding their interface requirements.

13.    Construction support experience a plus

14.    Knowledge of NEC, IEC, ISA, & IEEE standards, methods and practices.

15.    Management of virtualization technology

16.    Deployment and operation of servers, network devices, and/or storage arrays

17.    Architect telecom networks and solutions, at multiple hierarchical levels

18.    Documentation of network configurations, traffic formats and associated theory of operations

19.    Network equipment and configuring related protocol layers including high-capacity transport (e.g., DWDM), multi-layered traffic (IP, Ethernet/VLAN, MPLS) and edge routing/switching

20.    Network capture/recording, analysis and replay, including both LAN packets and broadband bitstreams

21.    Crafting of network traffic (protocol layers and content)

22.    Implementation and troubleshooting long-haul telecommunication links
