Medical Laboratory Scientist II, Hematology - Evening Medical Laboratory Scientist II Evening 32 hours As Testing Personnel defined by CLIA, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II may perform waived and non‑waived testing. Under general supervision, they carry out all policies and perform all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. They work independently in an efficient and organized manner to ensure accurate results and records. This role requires a professional level of knowledge to accurately read and interpret test results used by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. As General Supervisor defined by CLIA, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II may be delegated responsibility for day‑to‑day supervision or oversight of laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, they supervise assigned workstations, including quality control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management. Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory director and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training, experience, and technical abilities. Does this position require patient care? No Essential Functions After successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all instruments and methods applicable to the role. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintenance of patient test records. Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow established corrective action policies and procedures when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results, and correct them or immediately notify appropriate supervisory personnel. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Education Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology required or Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences required and other certificate/diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Medical Technologist (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) required. Experience Lab experience 1‑2 years required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must have an understanding of laboratory equipment and its operation, maintenance and repair and analytic techniques. Must have the ability to work independently, evaluate situations and act appropriately. Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. Must have the ability to pay careful attention to detail and to adhere to written protocols, including communication with supervisors when issues are identified. Must be able to perform as a team member. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with numerous staff, including physicians, hospital personnel, employees, and patients. Basic knowledge of federal, state and accreditation requirements.
