Job Title: RN ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:00 PM - 06:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Certification Must-Have: Experience in ICU patient care Description: Medical ICU is a 20-bed mixed ICU/Step Down unit. We have a combination of ICU 2:1 and Stepdowns are 3:1. Floating to a sister unit is required for Step Down patients at a 1:3 or progressive level at a 4:1 ratio. There is a weekend and holiday rotation commitment. Patient population includes severe respiratory failure, such as pneumonia, ARDS, and COPD or asthma exacerbations, often requiring mechanical ventilation or high-flow oxygen support. Sepsis and septic shock frequently require vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and aggressive fluid management. Hemodynamic instability, including hypotension, arrhythmias, or shock state, is common. Neurologic conditions include altered mental status, metabolic encephalopathy, overdose, or stroke (non-surgical). Complex metabolic and endocrine disorders, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, severe electrolyte abnormalities, or liver failure, are treated. Cardiac conditions that do not require immediate intervention are also managed, including heart failure exacerbations and post-cardiac arrest care. Gastrointestinal and hepatic failure cases, including GI bleeding, acute liver failure, or pancreatitis, are part of our patient demographic. Typical patient needs and acuity involve continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring. Invasive lines, such as arterial lines, are utilized. NIH and TNK therapy may be administered. Mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, or advanced oxygen therapies are provided. Titrated IV medications, including vasopressors, sedatives, insulin, and antiarrhythmics, are commonly used. Enteral or parenteral nutrition is frequently necessary. Laboratory monitoring and complex medication regimens are part of the standard care provided.
