Assistant Operations Manager Relocation Available
Join Alter Trading, a leader in metals recycling for over 127+ years. Were hiring an Assistant Operations Manager to support our auto shredder facility in Waterloo, IA. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for those with experience in heavy equipment, industrial operations, or scrap/recycling environments. Key Responsibilities:
- Support daily facility operations and assist the Facility Manager with compliance, safety, and production goals.
- Analyze operational data to resolve quality or production issues.
- Lead and develop training programs for operational staff.
- Oversee monthly operational budgets and help manage equipment/parts inventory.
- Serve as backup to Facility Manager when needed.
- Ensure product standards meet steel mill requirements and customer expectations.
- Engage with commercial and peddler customers to support business growth.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in metal recycling including Non Ferrous, preferred.
- 35 years of supervisory experience in industrial, recycling, or heavy equipment environments.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems is a plus.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; willingness to work outdoors in all weather.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid drivers license required.
- Preferred Experience: Background in non-ferrous (NF) and ferrous metals, scrap, shredders, supervisory or leadership roles, or operations/team lead/manager positions
