Band Saw Operator - 1st Shift (Machine Shop)

About the Role Visions Staffing Solutions is currently hiring a skilled Band Saw Operator for a premier machine shop facility located in Santa Fe Springs, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately cutting metal stock and raw materials to size using horizontal and vertical band saws. This position is critical to supporting machining and fabrication operations by ensuring precise material preparation is completed in a safe and efficient manner. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate horizontal and vertical band saws to cut metal materials, including steel, aluminum, and various alloys. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, cut lists, and job travelers to determine exact cutting requirements. Measure and mark materials accurately utilizing calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools. Select the proper saw blades based on the specific material type and thickness. Monitor saw performance continuously, adjusting feed rates, blade tension, and cutting angles to ensure optimal operation. Perform basic preventative maintenance and routine machine checks, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning. Verify that all cut parts meet strict dimensional tolerances and quality control standards. Identify and report any material defects or equipment malfunctions to the Shop Foreman. Assist with loading and unloading material, moving stock safely throughout the shop as needed. Maintain a clean, organized work area and comply strictly with all facility safety standards and PPE requirements. Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or vocational training is highly preferred. Minimum of 1 year of proven experience operating band saws or other industrial cutting equipment within a machine shop or manufacturing environment. Solid understanding of common metals and alloys used in machining processes. Proven ability to read, interpret, and work from mechanical drawings and technical instructions. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods. Unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. Working Conditions Fast-paced machine shop setting with exposure to moderate noise, metal shavings, and cutting oil. Mandatory use of safety gear, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
