Maintenance Supervisor

Job TitleThe City of Artesia, CA is seeking an experienced, hands-on maintenance professional with strong leadership skills and a commitment to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality public services.The ideal candidate has broad knowledge of public works maintenance operations, including streets, sidewalks, parks, facilities, and other public infrastructure, and is skilled at planning and prioritizing work, coordinating staff and resources, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.The successful candidate will be a dependable and approachable supervisor who leads by example, communicates effectively, and provides clear direction, training, and feedback to staff. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.Commits to honoring the City of Artesia's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Commitments.Plans, prioritizes, assigns, and supervises maintenance and repair work for streets, sidewalks, storm drains, parks, medians, City facilities, and other public infrastructure.Inspects work in progress and upon completion for compliance with City standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance.Trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff; provides guidance and performance feedback.Coordinates staff schedules, materials, and equipment needs for maintenance and special projects.Oversees maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles; ensures proper use and storage.Assists in budget preparation and monitors expenditures for assigned programs.Responds to and resolves public inquiries and service requests courteously and effectively.Maintains records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.Participates in safety training and awareness programs and ensures safety compliance within the department and amongst the staff.Performs related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of:Principles and practices of public works maintenance, including streets, parks, and facility operationsMaterials, tools, equipment, and methods used in construction and maintenanceSafety standards and regulations applicable to public works operationsPrinciples of employee supervision, training, and performance evaluationWork planning, scheduling, and recordkeepingAbility to:Plan, assign, and supervise the work of maintenance personnelInterpret and apply policies, procedures, and safety requirementsCommunicate effectively, both verbally and in writingMaintain accurate records and prepare clear reportsEstablish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, contractors, and the publicWork independently and exercise sound judgmentMinimum QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional coursework or training in public works, construction management, or a related field is desirable.Experience:Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public works maintenance, including at least two (2) years in a lead or supervisory role.Any combination of training, education, and experience which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed herein may be considered.Required Licenses and/or Certificates:Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required. An incumbent is required to possess a valid Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
