Job Summary As an Emergency Department team member at Corewell Health, you will provide top-quality care to patients under the supervision of an RN. Your responsibilities include performing delegated patient care tasks and meeting all established competencies. You will be a vital part of the team, making a real difference in patients’ lives and their families. Essential Functions Perform routine bedside nursing activities such as ambulating, moving and turning patients, assisting with bedpans or urinary devices, and making patient beds. Bag and label all patient belongings and complete the patient property record for all admitted patients. Perform higher‑level patient care tasks as prescribed by competencies and delegated by the supervising RN, including starting saline locks, simple suture removal (excluding facial or complex lacerations), splinting, phlebotomy (for children over 2), vital sign measurement, documenting intake and output, and restraint application. Reinforce patient teaching plans by providing clarification, explanation, and demonstration of treatments, procedures, and aftercare to patients or decision‑makers. Apply and change sterile and non‑sterile dressings using appropriate techniques; apply ace bandage or elastic stockings as required. Assist with catheterizations, give enemas, perform urine and stool testing, glucometer checks and EKG functions. Gather subjective and objective patient care data from observation, patient and significant‑other interviews, and the medical record. Document accurate, complete, and precise patient information, interventions, and responses in the medical record. Assist with discharge functions under the supervision of an RN. Perform technical skills such as collecting blood samples, obtaining vital signs, performing ECGs, setting up and assisting with wound care, setting up and assisting with pelvic exams, and assisting with procedures as directed by nurses and physicians. Utilize and understand sterile technique. Effectively communicate with patients, significant others, and the health care team to support patient‑centered care. Stock and maintain adequate equipment and supplies in care areas; ensure vehicles and equipment are ready for response. Safely move and transport patients; remove waste materials, sanitize tools, and deliver meals to patients. Complete documentation and records according to department policy. Demonstrate a high degree of professional conduct, attend required safety training, and describe responsibilities related to general safety. Follow hospital exposure control plans and bloodborne and airborne pathogen protocols. Show respect for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees, fostering a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of the department team inter‑ and intra‑departmentally. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. At least six months of relevant inpatient caregiver experience (e.g., nursing assistant, paramedic, EMT, urgent care caregiver, or nursing student with completed Medical‑Surgical rotation). Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association or BLS – ARC American Red Cross. Preferred: Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT – STATE_MI). Department: Emergency Center – Taylor Hospital. Employment Type: Full time, Night shift (United States of America). Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36 hours. Hours of Work: 7:00p.m. to 7:30a.m. Days Worked: Monday to Friday. Weekend Frequency: Every other weekend.
