What We Are Looking For Ceres Environmental Operations seeks an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Associate II to lead company-wide safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, Tribal, and client safety requirements. This position serves as a department leader responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs that protect employees, subcontractors, facilities, equipment, and the public. This role provides strategic leadership and guidance to operational teams in regard to safety related programs and processes meant to prevent injuries, fires, or other workplace accidents. Success in this role will be measured through improved safety performance metrics, reduced incidents and injuries, enhanced regulatory compliance, effective safety training programs, and the continued development of a proactive safety culture across all operations. What You Will Do Lead, develop, implement, and maintain company-wide health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and strategies. Supervise Safety Supervisors and safety personnel responsible for implementing safety-related programs and accident prevention initiatives. Assess workplace and project-site hazards and recommend appropriate corrective actions and mitigation measures. Conduct and oversee regular safety inspections, audits, and job hazard analyses to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and near-miss events; determine root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions. Prepare and submit accident reports in accordance with OSHA, client, and regulatory requirements. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate safety training programs covering safe work practices, equipment operations, emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance. Monitor the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend modifications to improve organizational safety performance. Ensure the availability, maintenance, and proper use of safety equipment, PPE, and emergency response resources. Collaborate with operations, project management, and leadership teams to integrate safety practices into daily operations. Respond to employee safety concerns and provide guidance to improve overall safety compliance and performance. Support emergency preparedness and response efforts, including evacuation plans, incident response procedures, and crisis management protocols. Monitor and communicate changes to OSHA, EPA, Tribal, federal, state, and local safety regulations. Establish and maintain relationships with government agencies, insurance providers, safety organizations, and client representatives. Promote and maintain a culture of safety excellence throughout the organization. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. Equivalent certifications and experience may be considered. 10 or more years of experience in occupational health and safety management, construction safety, environmental services, disaster response, or related industries. OSHA 30 Certification. OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510 Certification. HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification. EM-385-1-1 Certification. Current First Aid/CPR Certification. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Tribal, federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards. Proven ability to build collaborative relationships, foster teamwork, and influence employees at all organizational levels. Strong oral and written communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated expertise in safety auditing, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and incident investigation. Strong attention to detail and ability to enforce safety procedures and protocols. Preferred Qualifications Certified Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST). Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST). Certified Safety Manager (CSM). Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS). USACE EM-385 1-1 (2024 Update) Certification. Experience working with Tribal Nations and knowledge of Tribal safety laws and regulations. Bilingual language skills. Experience supporting federal contracts, disaster recovery operations, environmental remediation, or emergency response projects. What to Expect This role combines field-based safety leadership with strategic program management responsibilities. The Safety Manager routinely travels to project locations, construction sites, debris management operations, environmental remediation projects, and disaster recovery sites to evaluate safety performance, conduct inspections, support project teams, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. The work environment is fast-paced and often involves changing priorities, emergency response activities, and coordination with multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate will spend time both in the field and in office settings conducting audits, reviewing reports, delivering training, investigating incidents, and developing safety initiatives. Travel, extended work hours, and occasional emergency deployments may be required depending on operational needs. Willingness to wear PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toed boots. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, elevated spaces, confined spaces, construction environments, and disaster-affected areas. Ability to travel extensively to project sites and operational locations. Exposure to mechanical equipment, airborne particles, noise, vibration, and other field hazards.
