Fabricator

Fabricator Position
Technique is looking for a Fabricator to join our team at our North Carolina chassis facility. In this role, you will be responsible for producing precision sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies that meet exacting dimensional and quality standards. The Fabricator works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to transform raw materials into finished parts that serve aerospace, defense, automotive, motorsports, medical, and food processing customers. This position demands more than technical skill – it calls for a craftsperson who takes pride in their work, approaches every part with an artist's eye for detail, and treats precision and quality as non-negotiable standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled craftsperson with hands-on fabrication experience in a precision manufacturing environment and a genuine passion for their trade. They bring mastery of sheet metal layout, forming, and finishing, and are equally comfortable reading detailed engineering drawings and blueprints as they are operating press brakes, shears, and welding equipment. Above all, the right person views every part they produce as a reflection of their craft – someone who will not release a component unless it meets their own high standard for quality and finish.
Responsibilities:
- Precision Fabrication – Fabricate sheet metal components and assemblies from raw stock to finished dimensions using press brakes, shears, punches, rollers, and related equipment, holding tight tolerances that reflect the quality standard of every part that leaves your hands.
- Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation – Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and technical specifications with complete accuracy; translate design intent into flawlessly executed parts without requiring rework or re-interpretation.
- Layout & Setup – Plan and perform accurate layout of parts prior to forming and cutting; set up tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters to ensure first-article quality and repeatable results across production runs.
- Forming & Bending – Operate press brakes and forming equipment with skill and artistry to achieve complex geometries, precise bend angles, and consistent flange dimensions; understand material springback and compensate proactively for different alloys and gauges.
- Cutting & Shearing – Perform shearing, laser cutting, or plasma cutting operations to produce blanks and finished profiles within specified tolerances; select and optimize cutting parameters for clean, burr-free edges that reflect professional craftsmanship.
- Welding & Joining – Perform MIG, TIG, or spot welding operations as required to join fabricated components; produce clean, structurally sound welds with consistent bead appearance that demonstrate mastery of the process and pride in the finished product.
- In-Process Inspection & Self-Checking – Use precision measuring instruments – calipers, micrometers, squares, and gauges – to inspect your own work at each stage of fabrication; take ownership of quality before any part moves to the next operation or leaves your workstation.
- Finishing & Deburring – Deburr, grind, and finish fabricated components to drawing requirements and cosmetic standards; treat the final surface of every part with the care and attention of a craftsperson who understands that finish quality is part of the product.
- Material Handling & Traceability – Handle raw materials and finished parts with care to prevent damage, contamination, or mix-up; maintain accurate part identification and traceability throughout the fabrication process in compliance with customer and quality system requirements.
- Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving – Identify opportunities to improve setup methods, tooling, or process sequences to increase quality and efficiency; communicate issues or suggestions to engineering and production leads as a collaborative partner in the pursuit of excellence.
- Workplace Safety & 5S – Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE usage, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe material handling practices; maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workstation as an extension of your craftsmanship and respect for the workplace.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on fabrication experience in a precision or production sheet metal environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with press brakes, shears, punches, and forming equipment; ability to set up and operate independently
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications with confidence and accuracy
- Proficient use of precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and angle gauges
- MIG, TIG, or spot welding experience preferred; willingness to cross-train in welding processes required
- Strong attention to detail and a personal commitment to quality – you take pride in every part you produce and hold yourself to the highest standard of craftsmanship
- Ability to work effectively from work orders and production schedules in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality standards
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly; must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods throughout the shift
- Comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, metal dust, fumes, and moving equipment; appropriate PPE is required and provided
- No travel required for this position
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
Position Type and Expected Hours: This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Note: days and hours required may vary. Shift premiums are available.
