Pelton Project is recruiting Residential Specialists and Recovery Specialists, to work with individuals in mental health and addiction recovery. All shifts available. 

POSITION

The Residential Specialist provides person-centered and strength-based supports for adults in mental health recovery within a residential setting. The Residential Specialist’s responsibilities include helping residents with daily activities such as creating their weekly schedule, meal preparation, getting dressed for the day, health monitoring, symptom management, taking medication and vital measurements such as temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. The Residential Specialist will also support individuals in their unique goals towards accessing independent housing, employment, recreational or spiritual activities, peer supports, continuing their education and obtaining or maintaining sobriety.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • These duties are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be required. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position. Duties and responsibilities are also subject to change based on resident needs and the employer and requirements of the job change.
  • Assess resident's unique strengths, housing histories, disabilities, and resource/support needs (e.g. food, health, transportation, etc.) and opportunities to best support the individual in their person-centered plan.
  • Research community activities and develop internal activities/groups to support individuals in mental health recovery.
  • Track resident goals as described on individual treatment plan and residential service plan. Complete daily documentation on supports provided to residents.
  • Consult with the resident and partner agencies; determine goals, needs, barriers, and preferences.
  • Provide self-sufficiency workshops in the areas of independent living skills
  • Assist clients with employment linkage, benefits establishment, and other services as needed to assist in reaching resident goals.
  • Demonstrate the utmost level of integrity in all instances and show respect toward others and toward organization principles.
  • Work respectfully and effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Provide support services in a non-judgemental manner.
  • Assist clients with procuring necessary documents and services such as identification card, birth certificate, social security income, and disability income.
  • Support residents with their Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (iADL’s)including; ambulating, grooming, laundry, meal preparation, managing communication, medication management, scheduling appointments, transportation, finances, recreational activities as needed while supporting as much independence as possible.
  • Support residents in creating positive relationships with housemates, team members and community as a whole.
  • Communicate pertinent information with residents’ families, co-workers, supervisors, case managers, prescribers while adhering to HIPPA.
  • Identify barriers and steps necessary to overcome obstacles.
  • Provide information, referrals, and direct advocacy as needed, utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Link participants with services intended to address significant barriers to housing stability – e.g. mental health services, chemical dependency services, primary health services, employment and/or educational supports.
  • In a collaborative manner, coordinate with internal and external agency representatives to ensure clients are resourced according to their needs.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with a network of community providers and services to address and advocate for resident needs.
  • Mediate conflicts provide de-escalation and crisis intervention, model appropriate problem solving; and refer to appropriate services as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Substantive working knowledge of the following evidence-based practices: collaborative problem solving, person-centered planning, trauma informed care, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based case management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in de-escalation, crisis intervention and stabilization skills.
  • Promotes a team environment that values, encourages and supports differences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team particularly to be able to exercise sound decision making in the absence of supervision, with strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to safely administer medication and other nursing delegations.
  • Ability to set and maintain boundaries in a professional manner.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and follow through.
  • Ability to follow agency policy and procedures to maintain safety and security within the facility.
  • Ability to enter data accurately; create log entries and case notes; prepare written reports.
  • Sensitive to and able to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse economic circumstances, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, physical and mental abilities, and sexual orientation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate effectively about technical problems and solutions.
  • Strong problem solving, time and project management skills are required to be successful in this role.
  • Ability and aptitude with technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in business environment including various databases, Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., and Internet technology.
  • Valid OR driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets Pelton Project standards, required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, type, and reach with hands and arms; and requires the ability to occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required.
  • Travel to program sites and meetings outside the office and around the county are necessary.
  • Mental efforts like attention to detail, interacting with others in-person and through email, using critical thinking skills to strategize, develop and implement business plans, create and edit documents, listen and participate verbally at meetings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is normal. Residential Specialists work within a home-like residential facility. Residents must have a mental health diagnosis and may have other disabilities as well, many include single, formerly homeless adults who have limited support system, may struggle with chemical dependencies, veterans or have been effected by trauma. Working in a residential setting you will be in close proximity to the people we serve. This position is not eligible for remote work, it requires onsite work only.

Minimum Experience:

Have acceptable driver’s history and pass background check through the state of Oregon. Prefer Bachelors degree in related field or two years experience working with individuals in mental health recovery.

Compensation:

  • Starting $19.00-$24.00/hour, depending on education and experience
  • 2 weeks PTO Starting
