Medical Assistant

Statement of Purpose: This position provides direct medical assistant services and procedures to patients; works as part of a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient quality of life through competent medical intervention; and ensures all documentation is compliance with professional and legal standards for multi-site health center locations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Demonstrates knowledge of documentation protocols. Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, medications, and accepted treatment practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Working knowledge of community resources and local referrals for HIV/HCV/STI and additional appropriate client-centered referrals preferred. Ability to recognize and adhere to professional boundaries and standards. Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced and changing environment, and skilled at multi-tasking. Ability to apply principals of health promotion and disease prevention. Strong computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems, including electronic medical records (experience with eClinical Works preferred) Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and deliver respectful, high-quality care to all patients in a community health setting across wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. Requirements: Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and proof of insurance Must have reliable transportation Must pass necessary fingerprinting, Level II background checks and employment eligibility verification through the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify system, MA Primary Tasks/Responsibilities: A minimum of two days per week covering a Provider in the LPN/Medical Assistant role. Performs medical intake procedures including taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and completing risk assessments. Records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions. Completes all physician orders including venipuncture lab draws, medication administration, vaccinations, injectables, etc. Documents all patient care in an accurate, timely, legible manner in compliance with Nursing Department protocols. Completes health education counseling for all patients. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and/or family in accordance with established protocols. Reviews charts of patients to ensure all necessary documentation is present, current, and complete to facilitate and triage visit. Collaborates with METRO team members to coordinate patient services. Utilize resources in a cost effective manner. Provides assistance in all clinical areas within scope of practice, as needed. MA Education/Professional: Bachelor’s Degree in public health, social services or related field OR equivalent experience working in the field. A minimum 1 year of experience in the field and knowledge of HIV/STD infection, transmission and prevention; evidence-based interventions, with an understanding of health education principles and behaviors and familiarity with community resources.
