Electrical Technician III - Prototype Build

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician III to join our hardware team in Sunnyvale, CA. This role is integral to our prototype build and technical services function, supporting the development of next-generation consumer electronics devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess condition of returned units, confirm failure modes, and perform root cause failure analysis
• Perform delicate assembly of devices following defined SOPs, including electrical and mechanical assembly
• Calibrate, test, and flash prototype electronic devices
• Strategically disassemble units and perform visual inspection of systems related to failure symptoms
• Perform component/module exchanges to isolate failures
• Operate flash and calibration stations; follow SOPs for testing equipment
• Troubleshoot and test script functions across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments
• Provide solutions to teams with electrical and software troubleshooting and repair
• Document work performed on each unit in a thorough and consistent manner
• Author and maintain assembly/operating instructions (SOPs)
• Assist with scaled prototype assembly and small pre-production units in varying numbers
• Adapt to a daily changing statement of work and balance multiple tasks effectively
• Collaborate with responsible design engineers for troubleshooting, clarification, and feedback
• Propose and implement process improvements to increase production efficiency

Must-Have Skills

• Hand soldering skills with 0201 required (01005 preferred), using microscopes and camera-based inspection equipment
• Experience troubleshooting and modifying circuit boards and small electronic equipment used in consumer electronics
• Past experience troubleshooting and testing prototypes and VR hardware
• Past experience troubleshooting and testing PCBA and FPC hardware
• Familiarity with electronic analysis tools to perform systematic QC of electronic assemblies
• Proficient with Linux, Windows, and macOS
• Familiar with Python and Android Debug Bridge (ADB)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and processes
• Experience performing failure analysis with solution proposals and repairs
• Ability to document and author assembly/operating instructions (SOPs)

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Computer programming experience
• Past prototype or assembly line experience, particularly in small electronics or devices
• Familiarity with OrCAD/Allegro and other EE hardware design tools
• IPC Certification preferred
• CAD experience in mechanical design or 3D printing
