CONSERVATION CREW SUPERVISOR 1 - OPTION A - UNDERFILL

Overview The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is part of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR) and protects Nevada's ecosystems. The NDF works with the Department of Corrections to train inmates in natural resources and wildland fire management as part of rehabilitation efforts. This position is a Conservation Crew Supervisor 1, Option A – Natural Resources located in Carson City. The supervisor directs up to 12 inmate crew members on conservation projects such as timber stand improvement, timber harvest, insect and disease abatement, vegetative fuels reduction, tree planting, reclamation of wildfire‑damaged lands, riparian enhancement, watershed and range improvement, wildlife habitat enhancement, park maintenance, herbicide and pesticide application, and prescribed fire support. Responsibilities The supervisor plans, assigns, and reviews project work; briefs crew on requirements, safety, and hazards; directs projects to ensure timely completion and production; identifies problems and takes corrective action; maintains crew security and custody; records and reports project outcomes, equipment usage, maintenance, and crew evaluations; and monitors safety compliance. The role also provides emergency response support during floods, fires, earthquakes, search and rescue, and other natural disasters, and may serve in standby duty. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of general work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities Transport crew to job sites and maintain related records. Communicate with dispatch using two‑way radio. Organize and oversee aviation operations such as Helitack, helicopter, and Helibase as assigned. Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment; perform routine maintenance and repair; report failures. Assist with budgets, coordinate projects, and write project narrative reports. Ability to: Use carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and automotive tools for minor repair and construction work. Use a compass and read maps. Recognize unsafe work practices and take necessary precautions to reduce injury. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Maintain routine records. Lead and train staff and/or inmates to accomplish objectives. Career Development Incumbents will receive training in all or part of the duties outlined above and in specialized areas of natural resource or fire suppression. This is a trainee level; progression to the next level in the series may occur upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and appointment authority approval. #J-18808-Ljbffr
